On Thursday afternoon, the cause of death of Lisa Marie Presley was revealed.
The American singer and songwriter was the daughter of singer and actor Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley. She passed away suddenly on January 12, 2023, at the West Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
Lisa Marie Presley Passed Away From Small Bowel Obstruction
According to documents obtained by The Blast, Lisa Marie's Presley was ruled as a "sequelae of small bowel obstruction." During her hospitalization, she was found to have "a severely distended abdomen and diagnosed with severe metabolic acidosis."
According to the autopsy report, "The cause of death of this 54—year—old female idientified as Lisa Marie Beaulieu Presley is sequelae of small bowel obstruction. The obstruction was in the form of a strangulated small bowel caused by adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery years ago. This is a known long term complication of this type of surgery."
The toxicology report also indicated that she had "therapeutic levels of oxycodone in the blood." The report also identified "Quetiapine metabolite along with buprenorphine with associated metabolites are also present and are not contributory to death."
The report concluded, "There is no evidence of injury or foul play. The manner of death is deemed natural."
According to the Mayo Clinic, an intestinal obstruction is a blockage that prevents food or liquid from passing through the small intense or large intense, which is also known as the colon. Intestinal obstructions can be caused by fibrous bands of tissue, also called adhesions, in the abdomen that form after surgery.
They can also be caused by hernias, colon cancer, certain medications, or structures from an inflamed intestine caused by other health conditions, such as diverticulitis or Crohn’s disease. Symptoms of intestinal obstruction include cramping abdominal pain that comes and goes, a loss of appetite, constipation, vomiting, an inability to have a bowel movement or pass gas, and a swelling of the abdomen.
Individuals that have any of the symptoms should seek medical help due to the serious complications that can develop from an intestinal obstruction.

Priscilla Presley Calls Lisa Marie Presley ‘The Most Passionate, Strong, and Loving Woman I Have Ever Known’
At the time of her passing, Priscilla Presley released a statement to People magazine, saying, "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."
Presley had been rushed to the hospital for a possible cardiac arrest. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to the publication that paramedics had responded to her home in Calabasas to treat a woman in her 50s who had stopped breathing. When they arrived, paramedics began CPR and noted that she had “signs of life.” They rushed her to the hospital for “immediate medical care.”

She continued to spread awareness about suicide, especially on National Grief Day, when she said that "I keep going because my son made it very clear in his final moments that taking care of his little sisters and looking out for them was on the forefront of his concerns and his mind. He absolutely adored them and they him."
