Here's How Al Roker Feels About Becoming A First-Time Grandfather

For Al Roker, becoming a first-time grandfather is a cherished chapter in his life.

With heartfelt emotions, the beloved television personality opened up about his feelings as he reflected on this new generation's profound impact on his life. The "TODAY" weatherman's daughter and husband, Wesley Laga, welcomed a baby girl named Sky Clara Laga on July 3.

With excitement, as he embraced the anticipated role, the 68-year-old took to social media to share heartwarming photos of his newborn granddaughter. Alongside the image, the TV star expressed his joy and celebrated the profound significance of her birth for the entire family in the caption. He wrote:

"And then this little girl came into my life. Welcome to the world, Sky Clara Laga. In love all over again. Thank you, Courtney and Wes, for such a perfect blessing. You baby is beautiful. Already planning the ways to spoil her and then hand her back."

Roker's fellow "TODAY" show host Savannah Guthrie was quick to congratulate him, writing, "OH MY GOODNESS!! Welcome to the world sweet girl! You have the best grandpa in the universe!!"

At the same time, "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts commented, "So precious… congratulations!! ?." Famous actress Kathie Lee Gifford also expressed her well wishes, stating, "So happy for your family welcome to the world, little miracle."

Fans flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages like this person who gushed, "Woo hoo!!! Congratulations, Grandpa Al!!! She's beautiful!!!" Another excitedly exclaimed, "POP POP IS IN THE HOUSE!!!❤️❤️❤️," while a third referred to the newborn as "gorgeous." 

Earlier, while attending the 31st Anniversary Gala of the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame Awards in New York City, the father-of-three unintentionally revealed the gender but quickly corrected himself to say "grandchild" instead. 

During the red carpet interview, he excitedly shared that his daughter Courtney was due in June. Roker initially mentioned that he did not want to know the baby's gender, but they were pleasantly surprised by the unexpected news.

The "Another World" guest star revealed a lighthearted anecdote about the moment his daughter accidentally revealed the previously well-kept secret. As he recalled, it all began with a text message exchange, where Courtney sent him a sonogram picture. 

The "WordGirl" voice actor had playfully commented, "'That baby looks just like you,'" to which she responded, '"Doesn't she?'" She immediately added, '"I'm so sorry!'" as he humorously expressed his mock disappointment, exclaiming that she had one job - to keep it a surprise.  

Despite facing health challenges in recent months, the journalist's difficult times have been made easier by the presence of his loved ones, especially Courtney. The "Quest for Camelot" guest actor expressed his deep love for the 36-year-old who married her sweetheart on June 5th, 2021, through an adorable tribute on their second wedding anniversary. 

Marking the special occasion, Roker showcased his unwavering affection and support by sharing a collection of photos on social media. Among the uploaded snaps, he included a cute throwback of the couple on their wedding day and a more recent shot capturing their love and happiness.

Additionally, the "Saturday Night Live" guest host shared a precious snapshot of himself with the new mom displaying their special bond. In the first post, the lovebirds looked stunning in their wedding attire, and in the second post, they embraced a more casual vibe at their baby shower. 

Laga sported a navy-blue suit paired with a light pink shirt and black shoes, while the recipe developer showcased her baby bump in a deep pink long-sleeve gown. Opting for a comfortable look, she accessorized with black flat sandals and chose to forgo heavy makeup for the event.

In another photo from the same event, Roker chose to pair denim pants with a pink-colored shirt and a suit jacket, adding a cream Fedora hat and glasses. The "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" star accompanied the images with a heartfelt caption, writing, "2 years ago today, these two tied the knot. Today we celebrated their about to be here, baby girl. So excited."
