Singer Britney Spears is now on Threads after she was reportedly assaulted by a member of Victor Wembanyama’s security team.
On Wednesday, the 41-year-old pop star was at Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel with her husband, Iranian actor Sam Asghari, and two others when she saw the NBA star and walked over to ask for a photo. She was reportedly slapped by the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs and a police report was filed.
After Victor claimed that the pop star "grabbed" him, Britney took to Instagram, her Instagram Stories, and Twitter, to make her own statement, countering his claim by saying she only tapped him on the shoulder and adding that she has received no apology for what transpired.
Around the same time, Britney's account suddenly popped up on Threads. Instead of addressing the incident, she just dropped one iconic line.
Britney Spears Joins Threads After Being Reportedly Slapped By Victor Wembanyama's Security Guard
Last year, the “Hold Me Closer” singer changed the name on her Instagram bio to “River Red.” Earlier this month, she posted a video of her dancing in her living room that she captioned “Maria River Red.” Britney has since adopted that as her new name on her Instagram bio, and carried it over to her new Threads account as well.
Although fans aren’t sure what it was supposed to be, it appears that Britney doesn’t want fans to forget who she really is. The first and only message on her page reads: “It’s Britney, b*tch.” The Instagram page dropped three crown emojis on the post while many fans replied with GIFs and photos of Britney performing on stage.
Lance Bass dropped a rainbow emoji on the post, while Tyra Banks added a smiling face with three hearts emoji. iHeart Radio exclaimed, “Welcome queen!!!!!”
“Hey queen, we love you,” one fan commented. “QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE,” another follower exclaimed. “Iconic,” a third fan agreed. “Was waiting for this,” another follower wrote. “Well played,” a third fan teased. “Slay queen slay,” another follower gushed.
Multiple fans also brought up the incident with the security guard, with one fan writing, “You should’ve said this before you grabbed bro’s shoulder.”
Britney Spears Breaks Her Silence On 'Super Embarrassing' Security Guard Incident
On Thursday night, the "Stronger" singer released a statement on social media that began, "Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night. I recognized an athlete in my hotel lobby as I was heading to dinner. I later went to a restaurant at a different hotel and saw him again. I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success. It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention."
Although Victor had previously claimed that she "grabbed" him from behind, Britney maintains that she only tapped him on the shoulder. "I am aware of the players [sic] statement where he mentions 'I grabbed him from behind' but I simply tapped him on the shoulder," she wrote. "His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses off my face."
"I get swarmed by people all the time. In fact that night. I was swarmed by a group of at least 20 fans. My security team didn't hit any of them," Britney added. Sam Asghari has since shared a video that showed how Britney interacts with her fans and it is far from violent or aggressive.
"This story is super embarrassing to share with the world but its [sic] out there already," Britney continued. "However, I think it's important to share this story and to urge people in the public eye to set an example and treat all people with respect. Physical violence is happening too much in this world. Often behind closed doors. I stand with all the victims and my heart goes out to all of you!!"
"I have yet to get a public apology from the player, his security or their organization," she wrote, adding, "I hope they will..." She then added a paragraph in her Instagram statement that was not contained in the initial statement that she shared on her Instagram Stories or Twitter, referencing the press conference that Victor gave when he claimed she "grabbed" him and appeared to poke fun at the incident.
"I also don't appreciate nor do I think this is a laughing matter," Britney wrote. "Watching the player smile and laugh was cruel and demoralizing with the situation that took place," she wrote. "I am 5'3 and he's 7'4..."
In both statements, she thanked the fans for all of their support, writing, "I cherish the tremendous amounts of love and support I am receiving at the moment. Thank you to the Las Vegas PD and the detectives for their support."
