Britney Spears Reportedly Screamed ‘In A British Accent’ After Alleged Assault

Singer Britney Spears is making headlines after she was reportedly assaulted by a member of Victor Wembanyama’s security team.

The 41-year-old pop star was dining in Las Vegas when she saw the NBA star across the room and wanted to snap a photo. According to reports, she was “backhanded” by a security member who mistook her for an overzealous fan.

A police report has since been filed and law enforcement officials are investigating the incident.

On Wednesday night around 8:30 PM, the “Circus” singer was dining at the Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel in Las Vegas. She was with three individuals, including her husband, Iranian actor Sam Asghari.

However, Britney noticed Victor, who was just drafted by the San Antonio Spurs last month, and wanted to take a photo with him. Photos obtained by TMZ show the singer approaching him from behind. She reportedly tapped him on his back and right shoulder when she was allegedly “instantly backhanded” by Damian Smith, the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs. Smith has been identified as the alleged attacker on the police report.

Britney’s glasses were reportedly knocked off her face as she fell to the ground. Although it’s not clear if anyone helped her up, she was able to return to the table. Smith reportedly went over to apologize, which Britney accepted. Smith had reportedly stated that his reason for striking the singer was, “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.”

Britney’s security team spoke to Smith after the incident and filed a police report with the Metropolitan Police Department shortly after, alleging battery. Although it was first reported that the incident was not being treated as a criminal case, because Smith was just trying to protect Victor, a later update revealed that the incident is being treated as a criminal case.

A law enforcement source told the outlet that the allegations are being treated “as serious as a heart attack.” They also noted that the incident will “likely” be referred to the District Attorney, who will make the final decision as to whether or not they will press charges against Smith for allegedly striking the singer.

The news was first reported on Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon, the incident had gone viral on social media, with everyone wondering how hard Britney was hit. One Canadian who was outside Catch restaurant on Wednesday night, Brian Grajales, said that he was a witness to the whole incident and actually saw Britney approach Victor and his security detail last night.

He told TMZ that Britney approached Victor and kept saying “Excuse me, sir… excuse me, sir…” in a British accent. He says the pop star was following the NBA star and his entourage when she “infiltrated” her way into his circle. Brian notes that his bodyguard gave her a “backhand slap across the face.”

One law enforcement source told the outlet that Smith hit Britney’s hand away and Britney’s hand hit her own face. However, Brian clearly disputes that and said that he could actually hear the slap. He said that her sunglasses “flew off.” He did not “recall” her falling to the ground, although she went “to the side” and hunched over.

He did note that there was a lot of commotion after the incident. Victor said he walked straight into the restaurant while a few people stayed behind to see if she was okay or restrain her from getting any closer if she was an overzealous fan, as Brian claims that no one recognized her as Britney at this time.

Brian says that the pop star shouted “This is f—ing America” after the incident, still in a British accent. He noted that Britney was “hanging around” the area for a while and covered her face with a hat before she eventually left with a group of individuals that were around her.

Neither Britney, Sam, nor Victor have publicly commented on the incident at this time.
