4th of July beachgoers could have never suspected they would have a near-death experience on their holiday but a hungry shark had other plans.
Shark Looking For A Playmate
Navarre Beach in Pensacola Florida had a visit from a huge shark on Monday. Beachgoers were seen rushing out of the water. Parents were picking up their kids and scrambling away from the beach as the shark got dangerously close to the shore.
It circled the area for a while according to the individual who took the video, known on social media as Cristy Cox. They also spoke with ABC’s Good Morning America Tuesday morning because the video has now gone viral.
“The shark clearly was trying to feed on a school of fish and it made its way back out and down the coast,” Cox said. In the video, people were seen screaming to warn people who seemed unaware that a shark was in the water.
The Viral Moment Is Racking Up Views
Seeing a shark so close to people has everyone freaking out a bit, the comments are crazy and coming from people you may not have guessed. Actor Justin Long joked, “Navarre swimming tharre again 😬”
Influencer Jayden Nicole wrote, “Just a reminder, it’s an ocean, full of life. Not a swimming pool. You are a visitor.” Others who have seen the video are entertained but not as surprised as one would think.
“I mean the shark does live there lol,” wrote one follower. “It’s funny how some of them decide to ignore others warning them to get out of the water!!! Interesting.”
Some comments reminded people that shark attacks are on the rise lately. “Stop swimming in the ocean. Didn’t you’ll all that horrific shark attack in Egypt recently? Please swim in a pool,” another user wrote.
Another Shark Attack In Perdido, Florida
The rise of shark attacks and spottings is no joke. Not far from Pensacola in Perdido, another shark was spotted at Perdido Key Beach swimming in shallow waters. Thankfully, with this incident, it didn’t appear that many people were in the water.
Over in New York on Monday, a 15-year-old boy was attacked by a shark while surfing off the coast of Fire Island. He was bitten on his toes and heel but was luckily able to swim to shore.
He had non-life-threatening injuries but was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, Long Island for examination. The attack took place in the evening just after 5:00 p.m.
A Man Was Saved By Dolphins
The attack that one of the commenters mentioned that happened in Egypt was a more serious case that could have gone worse. A man named Martin Richardson was swimming in the Red Sea when he was attacked and seriously injured by a shark.
He was bitten five times and said he was preparing for death when a pod of dolphins appeared, and the attack stopped. He ended up with over 300 stitches but he’s living and still has all four limbs.
"I firmly believe the dolphins saved my life,” says Richardson.
