Kevin Costner's estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner seems to be looking for some peace and quiet after a tumultuous few weeks.
The estranged couple has been locked in a bitter battle over finances and housing. Now in the middle of the storm of allegations and counter-allegations in their contentious divorce, she is finally taking some time to reconnect with their children.
Christine Baumgartner Takes Time Out With Kids Amid Divorce Drama
Arriving at the LAX airport, the handbag designer was spotted with a cup of coffee and her luggage, ready to embark on a momentary respite from the ongoing legal battle. With the July 4th holiday weekend just around the corner, Baumgartner could not have asked for better timing.
As she takes this much-needed trip, the entrepreneur is aware that it must be a quick one. She has a crucial court hearing in Santa Barbara on Wednesday, where she plans to contest the prenuptial agreement.
With much at stake, this getaway serves as a brief escape before she faces the legal challenges head-on. As reported by TMZ, the ongoing divorce battle between Costner and Baumgartner has escalated with shocking financial demands. The "Cat Bag Couture" owner is seeking a whopping $248,000 per month in child support.
However, the actor's accountant claims this extravagant figure includes expenses like over $100,000 for her plastic surgery, boutique shopping, ATM withdrawals, and other expenses. In a recent development, the mother-of-three reached an agreement to vacate the family's beachfront residence by the end of August.
With how widespread and publicly covered their divorce is, what is common is for couples to come together to help their kids understand. However, Baumgartner expressed discontent over the way their children were informed.
According to court documents, the 49-year-old made allegations that the "Bodyguard" star broke the news of their divorce to their teenagers during a brief ten-minute Zoom call while he was on set in Las Vegas.
This method of delivering the news left her feeling disappointed and frustrated, as she hoped they could share the information in person and together. In the filing, she emphasized that she had previously expressed her concerns to the "Yellowstone" star about their children — Cayden, Grace, and Hayes — learning about the divorce from someone outside their family.
She also included several articles underscoring the importance of presenting a united front when discussing sensitive matters with the kids. Nevertheless, her concerns were brushed aside by "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" actor who "insisted that he had the right to tell them that we were getting divorced 'first' and tell them privately 'without me present.'"
The designer expressed her worries, stating, "The children's welfare has always been my highest priority, and I was concerned they would find out about the divorce before Kevin, and I could tell them. It was important for me that we tell the children in person and together."
The 'JFK' Star's Attempt To Serve Estranged Wife With Divorce Papers First Hits A Snag
Some more details emerged after Costner claimed that Baumgartner had made him "homeless" by refusing to leave their California home and accumulating a $95,000 charge on his credit card during their heated breakup.
Reportedly, sources revealed that the designer "blindsided" the 68-year-old by presenting him with divorce papers first. According to the insider:
"Kevin sat his family down, told them he and their mum were getting a divorce, and his lawyer was getting the paperwork drawn up. He wanted everything to be peaceful for the sake of his kids and told Christine he didn't want a messy divorce because he'd already been through one."
Unfortunately, he did not get his wish as she "sneak attacks him and serves him with her own set of divorce papers" after their conversation. The source claimed, "Kevin was so shocked," before alleging that "Christine has since made him look terrible and has continued to do so."
However, it all seems to be the opposite of what a longtime pal disclosed about Costner being "stunned by Christine's actions." According to them, "Kevin was very surprised by Christine's actions, he obviously doesn't want the divorce, and he would take her back. It's disappointing; he loves her and his children."
