Robert De Niro Reveals His Older Children Are Yet To Meet Their Newest Sibling

Robert De Niro revealed that his six older children have not yet met his two-month-old daughter, Gia Virginia, whom he shares with his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen. The renowned actor plans to spend Father's Day with his children.

During an interview, De Niro acknowledged that sometimes laying down the law is necessary as a parent, even though it may not be enjoyable, as parents always strive to do what is best for their children.

Robert De Niro recently talked about his family dynamics during an interview with People magazine at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday.

At the festival's screening of his 1993 film "A Bronx Tale," the 79-year-old actor shared that his six older children have yet to meet his newest addition, two-month-old daughter Gia Virginia whom he shares with his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen. De Niro and Chen have been romantically linked since the summer of 2021.

When asked whether his children, namely Drena, 51, Raphael, 46, twins Julian and Aaron, 27, Elliot, 24, and Helen, 11, have had the chance to meet their youngest sibling, De Niro responded, "Not yet, but they will." 

As for his Father's Day celebration plans, the "Goodfellas" actor said, "just gonna spend it with the kids and all that."

Amid the excitement surrounding De Niro's growing family, his former co-stars Chazz Palminteri and Katharine Narducci shared their heartfelt sentiments with People magazine. Palminteri, couldn't contain his admiration as he exclaimed to the outlet, "Oh, I saw the baby. Beautiful baby."

Narducci, another former co-star, echoed Palminteri's feelings, although she admitted to not having met the newest addition yet. She emphasized De Niro's exceptional qualities as a dad, describing him as "an unbelievable father" and "a wonderful person." She continued, "I've seen him around his kids, and I know his daughter Drena, and they have a beautiful relationship."

She further praised the "Goodfellas" actor, saying, "And I think he's a great guy, you know, a great dad, a great person — a great human being."

De Niro's first two children were born during his marriage to Diahnne Abbott. Subsequently, he welcomed twins with his girlfriend, Toukie Smith. De Niro's other children, Elliot and Helen, were born during his marriage to ex-wife Grace Hightower, with whom he tied the knot in 1997 but separated from in 2018.

During an appearance on the Today Show to promote, De Niro couldn't help but share his joy and open up about his newborn daughter. In a heartwarming moment, he also mentioned his dear friend Al Pacino and his recent addition to the family.

He said, "Listen, Al Pacino just had a baby, I was told yesterday morning, and he's a few years older than me. God bless him, very happy for him." Delving into his own experiences, De Niro expressed his delight in raising a newborn again, exclaiming, "It feels great."

As the interview continued, he reflected on how he had evolved as a father over the years. With a sense of wisdom that comes with age, De Niro shared with host Hoda Kotb, "I have certain awareness — when you're older you have awareness of certain things in life, dynamics, everything, family dynamics."

He added, per Daily Mail, "You can't avoid learning certain things and how you can deal with those and manage them and this and that, the usual. It's amazing, but I'm very happy about it."

During an interview with ET Canada, De Niro delved into the topic of parenting while also discussing his latest film, "About My Father."

Reflecting on the challenges of raising children, De Niro candidly shared, "I mean, there's no way around it with kids. I don't like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice."

He continued, "And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can't."
