'Elvis Would Be Proud'
In a heartfelt declaration submitted on Wednesday in Los Angeles and obtained by People magazine, Priscilla Presley, 78, expressed her profound contentment with the recent settlement reached between herself and her granddaughter, Riley Keough, 34, regarding the estate of Lisa Marie Presley, who tragically passed away in January at the age of 54.
Priscilla spoke on the impact her daughter's death had on her and also said her late ex-husband, Elvis Presley, would be proud of their settlement.
"My daughter's passing was both devastating and heartbreaking. We have learned that the fans realize that we are 'Just a Family.' Elvis would be proud and his and Lisa's wishes are what is most important to all of us," she stated.
"The Elvis and Me" actress went on to express her admiration for her granddaughter's efforts in achieving a resolution "My granddaughter, through her counsel, along with my team worked diligently and tirelessly to resolve all misunderstandings as a family."
Priscilla Presley Claims Battle Over Lisa Marie's Trust Was A Misunderstanding
Priscilla also shed light on the deep connection between her, her late former husband, Elvis, and their beloved daughter Lisa Marie. As the only child of the legendary rock icon, Lisa Marie held a special place in their hearts. The late singer shared her daughter, Riley, with her ex-husband Danny Keough.
Priscilla's declaration served as support for a motion seeking to seal the petition previously filed by Keough to approve their settlement agreement.
In her statement, Priscilla clarified that the petition she submitted earlier in the year, which aimed to maintain her role as co-trustee of Lisa Marie's estate, had been "misconstrued" as a contentious battle over her beloved daughter's trust.
The accomplished actress emphasized that such a misunderstanding was never her intention and, as a result, she terminated the law firm that had filed the petition on her behalf. Priscilla expressed that her primary objective in submitting the declaration was to "resolve all potential uncertainty" surrounding the interpretation of the trust.
Priscilla Presley's Attorney Says 'Everyone Is Happy'
Following the amicable resolution reached in May, the sentiments of contentment and unity within the family have remained strong. Priscilla's attorney, Ronson Shamoun, spoke on the positive outcome, saying, "Everyone is happy. Unified and together and excited for the future." Echoing this sentiment, Riley's attorney, Justin Gold, added, "[Riley] would not have agreed to the settlement if she was not happy with it."
Regardless of the court's decision on Keough's petition, Priscilla's removal as the Trustee of Lisa Marie's estate will remain in effect, as it was already stipulated in the settlement agreement that she willingly signed.
Priscilla Presley Asks Court To Keep The Details Of The Settlement Confidential
As part of the agreement, Priscilla will receive $1.4 million along with an undisclosed sum for the next decade. Consequently, the trust will be administered solely by Keough.
However, in a recent development, Priscilla has filed a motion with LA Probate Judge Lynn Scaduto, seeking to seal the financial details of the settlement to keep them confidential from the public eye.
In her motion, which was uncovered by Daily Mail, Priscilla explained, "The settlement agreement contains private details regarding my daughter's Trust that is to benefit my two minor granddaughters (14-year-old Harper and Finley, Lisa Marie's children by fourth husband Michael Lockwood, 62)."
She continued, "If this information were to become public, it could put me and my family's safety at risk. 'This should subject me to significant danger, emotional distress and negatively affect my physical and mental health."
"It would also subject my son (musician Navarone Garibaldi, 36) and minor granddaughters to harassment and bullying. We have all been through enough," she concluded.
