The hit Showtime drama series "Billions" will return for one last season. The premium cabler announced this week that Season 7 of "Billions" will be the show's last. The show's final season debuts later this August on Showtime. Showtime also released a promo video featuring the returning Bobby Axelrod for the upcoming final season (see below):

Showtime's 'Billions' Will End With Final Seventh Season

Showtime will first roll out new episodes of "Billions" by streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, August 11, before airing on the Showtime network on Sunday, August 13 at 8:00 PM ET/PT. Season 7 will have 12 episodes and feature Emmy Award-winning actor Damian Lewis returning as fan-favorite character Bobby "Axe" Axelrod. Additionally, while Season 7 will be the formal end of "Billions," the franchise will continue with future planned spinoff projects currently in the works.

"Billions" stars Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll, and Maggie Siff. In Season 7, with the return of Bobby Axelrod, the stakes have been turned up from Wall Street to the entire world. Showtime is promising that old alliances will be turned on their heads and loyalties will be tested, with "betrayal" taking on "epic proportions." The series also stars David Costabile, Asia Kate Dillon, Dola Rashad, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sakina Jaffrey, Daniel Breaker, and Toney Goins.

Speaking on the show's final season, Showtime/TV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks President and CEO Chris McCarthy stated, "Billions has deftly explored power, money, and greed in a way that not only made it a massive hit but also defined its genre thanks to the creative brain trust of Brian and David." The executive continued on the final season and plans for the franchise, "This final season is packed full of the incredible, complex dialogue and character dynamics fans have come to love, and we are thrilled to partner with them on turning this hit series into a global franchise."

After hitting Showtime in 2016, the series became the premium cable network's most-watched signature series. Additionally, Showtime plans to expand the series into the "Billions Universe," with multiple spinoff projects in development. All the shows will be executive produced by series showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien ("Rounders"). Paul Schiff will also serve as executive producer for the new projects in the "Billions Universe."

Set in the world of high finance, the hit series explores United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Chuck Roades (Giamatti) in his pursuit to take down hedge fund manager and philanthropist Bobby Axelrod (Lewis). Using all their wits and resources, they play a game of cat and mouse and human chess against each other. Roades' wife, Wendy, also works as a psychiatrist and in-house performance coach at Axelrod's company, Axe Capital.

Beth Schacter also serves as showrunner and executive producer of "Billions." Andrew Ross Sorkin created the series. For fans who want to binge or re-watch the show ahead of Season 7's debut, all six seasons and 72 episodes are currently available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime.
