Reality star Khloe Kardashian is formally petitioning a court to change her son Tatum's name from Kardashian to Tatum Thompson.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" reality star wants to drop "Kardashian" from her son's last name so he is known only as Tatum Thompson.
Khloe Kardashian Files To Rename Her Son 'Tatum Thompson'
In legal documents obtained by The Blast, Khloe Kardashian has officially filed to drop "Kardashian" from her son's name and have him formally be recognized as "Tatum Thompson" in the legal sense. "The Kardashians" reality star did not choose a name when her son was born, but now that she has spent time with him, she feels that "Tatum" fits the toddler.
"The name change Petitioners decided not to pick a first name when their son was born," the filing reads. "Now that Petitioners have had the chance to spend time with their son, they have decided on the name Tatum Thompson."
Due to California law, new parents can choose whether they want to have their father's last name, their mother's last name, or a combination of both. In this case, Khloe decided to use the name of the child's father, Tristan Thompson, as they co-parent their two children together.
Tatum was born in July 2022. The couple also shares a daughter, True Thompson, who is now 5.
Khloe Calls The First Few Months Of Caring For Tatum 'Really Wild'
According to People magazine, the Good American co-founder spoke to her mother Kris Jenner about caring for Tatum in a recent episode of "The Kardashians." One of the challenges the new mom faced was having to change his formula due to a sensitivity.
"The first couple of months are really wild," she explained. "He sleeps until 4 a.m. every night right now and that's just a godsend because the beginning is really crazy."
"You just forget how mind-boggling the beginning is, because no one would do it again and again if they remembered how torturous the beginning is," she shared in a confessional.
Khloe Calls Being A Mom A 'Magical Experience'
Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian also talked about the struggles of surrogacy. Khloe admitted that it is taking her a bit longer to bond with Tatum than it did with her daughter True. Kris then told her that she needs to be easier on herself because she is a loving mother.
"I wish I wasn't so critical of myself because I'm very kind to everyone else, I'm just not very kind to myself,” Khloe said in another confessional. “But being a mom is truly one of, just the most magical experiences ever."
Khloe And Tristan Started Dating In 2016
Khloe and Tristan started dating in 2016. They welcomed their first child together, their daughter True, in 2018. The pair went their separate ways in June 2021 before getting back together.
In January 2022, the couple ended their relationship after she learned that Tristan was the father to a son, Theo, with Maralee Nichols. The athlete is also a father to a son named Prince, 6, with his ex Jordan Craig.
Khloe recently said that it was "exhausting" in an Instagram post trying to manage fans' expectations that she and Tristan will eventually get back together.
"Stop pushing this narrative. It's tiring," the mom-of-two wrote in response to a screenshot from celebrity gossip account Deux Moi that said, "Kim supporting Tristan at the Lakers game… what is going on?"
Although the former couple is no longer together, they are still putting on a united front for their children.
