Tom Holland Is Taking A Year-Long Break From Acting
Speaking with ExtraTV, Holland, who is in a relationship with "Euphoria" star Zendaya, shared he was staying off from acting for a year.
He revealed he was taking the decision after facing a "tough time" filming the psychological thriller "The Crowded Room."
Recalling his time on set, the actor also admitted that the show "broke" him, pointing out that he got to explore "certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before."
Besides the emotional toll, being a "producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, added that extra level of pressure" for the actor.
Despite it all, Holland said he is "excited to see how it turns out" and feels all the "hard work wasn't in vain."
He added, per Daily Mail, "I really enjoyed it. I loved the learning curve of becoming a producer. I'm no stranger to hard work, I've always lived by this idea that hard work is good work. And I really enjoyed it."
'The Crowded Room'
In "The Crowded Room," Holland takes on the role of Danny Sullivan, a young man suspected of a terrifying crime. As the story unravels, he gradually exposes secrets about his vulnerable psyche during conversations with a female interrogator (Amanda Seyfried).
The series has reportedly been in development since 2021, under the helm of director Akiva Goldsman, who is known for his work on "Batman Forever" and its sequel "Batman & Robin;" "I Robot;" and "I Am Legend."
It is inspired by Daniel Keyes' 1981 non-fiction book The Minds of Billy Milligan, which focuses on the same individual Holland plays in the series.
The book's narrative detailed how Milligan ultimately secured acquittal by pleading insanity after being apprehended for multiple felonies. Throughout the court proceedings, he asserted his alternate personalities were responsible for the crimes, insisting that he remained unaware of his own criminal actions.
The Series Helped Tom Holland Learn About Mental Health
In a separate interview, Holland noted that starring in the show was very informative for his "own life."
"Learning about mental health and the power of it, and speaking to psychiatrists about Danny (his character) and Billy's struggles, has been something that has been so informative to my own life," he told Entertainment Weekly, per Daily Mail.
Doubling down on his remark, Holland shared that the show will also impact viewers in the same way.
He added, "I hope that people will feel educated about the powers of mental health, the struggles, [and] our incredible abilities to survive."
Just like in his interview with Extra TV, Holland noted that the film took an emotional toll on him.,
"I'm no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action movie thing," he said. "But the mental aspect, it really beat me up, and it took a long time for me to recover afterwards, to sort of get back to reality."
Tom Holland And Zendaya's PDA Filled Trip
Away from acting, Holland is often seen spending time with his girlfriend, Zendaya.
Last month, the two were photographed packing on the PDA during a trip to Venice. They were spotted exploring the canals of Venice on a romantic gondola boat ride, taking selfies and capturing pictures of each other against the stunning backdrop of the city.

Both stars were dressed casually for the getaway. Holland donned a blue denim jacket, black jeans, and brown boots, while Zendaya wore a black tweed jacket, matching trousers, and heeled boots.
The romantic connection between the couple was first noticed when they were jointly cast in the Marvel/Sony movie, "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Since coming out publicly about their relationship, Zendaya and Holland have continued to flaunt their love and are sometimes seen on the red carpet together.
