New Controversial Meet and Greet Coming To Disney World

Walt Disney World is home to many characters, ranging from classics like Mickey and Minnie Mouse to Disney Princess royalty such as Snow White and Cinderella.

Soon, a new character meets, and greet will come–which is considered quite controversial.

Love or hate him, Figment is soon coming to Disney World to meet and greet Guests.

Figment is a tiny purple dinosaur part of the Journey Into Your Imagination With Figment attraction. Figment is technically a “figment” of your imagination as Guests go through the sensory labs to test their five senses. However, things don’t go accordingly as Figment messes around.

Although the character is loved by so many, others, mainly those who did not grow up with Figment, find the purple dinosaur annoying and useless. Figment will soon come to EPCOT at Walt Disney World despite the controversy surrounding him.

The company recently announced that Figment will begin greeting Guests this summer, though an exact date is yet to be released.

Disney fans have not held back their opinions on a Figment meet and greet coming to Disney World. While some are ecstatic, others are not convinced it is a good idea.

Attractions Magazine, a theme park fan account, Tweeted, “The ride? In need of help. But, Figment is coming back in meet and greet form soon to Epcot.”

While another fan, who is in favor of the meet and greet, brought up Pride Month and how announcing this during June was a great idea. “Figment is very ??? so I think it’s appropriate to reveal his new meet and greet this month ???,” they Tweeted.

Disney fans seem torn with the new Figment meet and greet coming to Disney World this summer.

The original Journey Into Your Imagination attraction opened at EPCOT on March 5, 1983, introducing Dreamfinder, Figment, and the iconic song “One Little Spark.” In the original ride, Dreamfinder took Guests along as he gathered materials to inspire new ideas. With the help of his imagination, he creates a companion named Figment, the dinosaur Guests know today.

The Disney Parks attraction was later rethemed, and in 1999, it became Journey Into Your Imagination. The ride underwent another reimagining, and the current version, Journey Into Imagination with Figment, debuted in 2002 and has remained the same ever since.

When speaking about the ride, Disney states, “The Institute’s beleaguered chairman Dr. Nigel Channing (played by Eric Idle) sets out to prove how the five senses capture the imagination—but the mischievous Figment upstages him!”

Their website continues, “Prepare for surprises galore as you travel through a series of vivid, whimsical sensory labs. Learn about all five senses as Figment turns the lab upside down and causes quite a stink in the Smell Lab. Let your imagination run wild on this marvelous, madcap musical adventure!”
