Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas is unafraid to wait for her desires patiently.
The TLC star recently revealed that she chose to remain single as she was determined to wait for the right person who would be perfect for her – and it looks like she lucked out! In January, she and actor, Matthew Lawrence, took to social media to confirm their relationship, and they could not be happier.
TLC Star Chilli Reflects On Her Journey To Romance With Matthew Lawrence
After years of patiently waiting and staying true to her standards, the singer found her perfect match in the actor's arms. Previously, the mother-of-one collaborated with relationship coach Tionna T. Smalls and VH1 to document her journey in finding a lifelong partner.
In a recent interview, she discussed her quest for love and her successful relationship with her boyfriend. During her appearance on the Tamron Hall Show, Chilli reflected on the reality show and how she "got flack" for her unwavering commitment to having high standards when it comes to relationships.
She emphasized that she was unwilling to settle and was happy to wait as long as necessary for the right person to enter her life. With a strong belief that timing is everything, the "A Diva's Christmas Carol" star stated:
"I'm like, 'Lord, if it happens, wonderful. If it doesn't, I'm still OK.' I've never been the one that's hard up, saying I have to be in a relationship or I have to be married. I wanted it to be right."
Overcoming skepticism, the former reality TV star persevered and discovered a special someone — Lawrence, even though their relationship did not unfold on camera. The 52-year-old described him as someone who "always puts the grilled cheese on my face." She excitedly gushed:
"Matthew, honestly, he's the list. I can't even say this or that, he is my entire list. So I thank God every day for him."
If you missed it, their relationship was confirmed months after the 43-year-old's divorce from his ex-wife, Cheryl Burke, was finalized. By April, the "No Scrubs" singer revealed that her relationship with him is real.
She opened up about how the podcaster changed her relationship perspective, admitting that she never expected to feel such deep emotions for him. During an interview with Page Six at Variety's Power of Women luncheon, she reflected on the progress of their bond since confirming their romance.
After being friends for several years, rumors started circulating last summer that the pair had taken their relationship to a romantic level, which was correct. They are so in love with each other that the "Red Light Special" artist noted that what they have is "real and there is nothing fake about it." She expressed her happiness by stating:
"I'm here with him because I wanna be, and he wants to be. We're just so happy, we are. I honestly didn't think that I would experience what I'm experiencing now, and I was OK with that…He has changed everything, including the way I look at relationships. It's so different."
Matthew Lawrence Opens Up About Future Plans With Chilli
In March, the "Mrs. Doubtfire" actor revealed that he and the singer had discussed expanding their family in the future. As reported by The Blast, he expressed his admiration for his partner, describing her as an "amazing woman" and someone extraordinary.
He highlighted the similarities in their upbringings, which he noted significantly strengthened their bond. The couple began dating in November 2022 and made their relationship public two months later through an Instagram post.
Speaking with ET, the "Boy Meets World" star emphasized his commitment to his relationship, disclosing their intention to expand their family. Lawrence stated:
"That's the game plan. That's what we're trying to do. My life is in complete bloom right now. I get to spend time with an amazing woman like Chilli. I've never gotten to be able to experience that kind of relationship before. She's really, really special."
The "Brotherly Love" star concluded by wishing "more people on the planet were like her."
