Offset Says Cardi B Changed His Life
In a recently released cover interview with Variety, Offset reflected on his six-year marriage to Cardi B. The Migos rapper said their relationship helped him stop his lean addiction, which he'd battled for years. Lean combines codeine, soda, promethazine, cough syrup, and candy.
He said, "I put down lean. I was drinking my whole career. It opened my mind, but I never thought it helped me create. I feel like getting past that, cleaning up, and putting that message out."
Offset said Cardi is his "bestie," whom he knows has always "got my back, right or wrong." He said that as a couple, they work to improve each other. The rapper added, "Social is her strong point, so I listen to her social advice. And me, it's the music, but I play behind the scenes; it's my wife, so I want to make sure she wins."
Offset said he and Cardi have formed a "great team" and can be considered a "powerhouse at this point — icon status." The "Clout" rapper added that because they believe in God and family, they're "always going to keep winning."
Cardi B Says She Fully Supports Offset
Cardi B was also featured in the Variety interview and spoke about her favorite qualities in Offset. She said, "What I appreciate about my husband is that no matter what issue I have personally or professionally, I know he will take care of me and our family. It's handled. I know I have a man who has my back for real."
The "Money" rapper also said that she "fully supports" Offset in the "next chapter of his music career." The "Bad and Boujee" star is working on his second solo album outside his Migos rap group.
Since Offset and Cardi married in 2017, they've welcomed two kids, five-year-old Kulture and two-year-old Wave. In 2019, the celebrity couple had issues over Offset's reported infidelity, and Cardi even filed for divorce in 2020. However, their divorce was eventually "dismissed without prejudice," and the couple reconciled.
She Previously Filed For Divorce
During a recent appearance on "The Jason Lee Show," Cardi reflected on the difficult period in her and Offset's relationship and discussed how they got through it. She said, "Me and Offset, we were not seeing eye-to-eye. This was, like, the same year I filed for divorce and everything,"
Cardi explained to host Jason Lee that she made sure Offset changed the behavior that caused their issues. She said, "The main thing that I wanted him to stop and everything, he stopped, and he changed, and it showed me that he wanted to change for me."
Offset Hints At A Collaboration With Cardi B
As Offset and his team work on his upcoming album, which is the sequel to his 2019 solo debut project, there's high anticipation over his features. So far, according to Billboard, the upcoming album features Travis Scott, Chloe Bailey, Future, Latto, and a song with the late TakeOff.
During his interview, Offset teased a possible collaboration with Cardi on the album. The couple has worked together several times previously, including "Clout" in 2019 and two songs with Migos, "Motorsport" and "Type Sh*t."
However, Offset avoided discussing the album tracks, which are slated for release this summer. A rep from Capitol Records eventually spoke to Variety and said the rapper made a "phenomenal" album. They said, "We can't wait until the world hears his masterpiece. We're deep into release planning now and will soon have big news to share!"
