Fans are in for a real treat from the upcoming third season of "Only Murders in the Building"!
Two crew members have teased that the hit show stars Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez might have a musical episode in the impending season. This is even more reason for fans to anticipate its premiere as it already has appearances from several well-known Hollywood stars, including Meryl Streep, Jesse Williams, and Paul Rudd.
Marc Shaiman Teased The Possibility Of A Musical Episode In Upcoming 'OMITB' Season 3
Although there are no official details yet, heavyweight musical composer Shaiman hinted at the possibility of a musician episode in "OMITB" season 3. The tease came when Shaiman informed Variety recently that he and his fellow musician impresario Scott Wittman had "worked on the next season of 'Only Murders in the Building.'"
"We're not allowed to say anything more than that, but you could probably do that math," the Grammy award-winning lyricist quickly added. Since Wittman and Shaiman's latest project — a musical adaptation of the 1959 film, "Some Like It Hot" — was a hit on Broadway, earning 13 Tony nominations this year, fans of "OMITB" can expect a good time if they worked on an episode of the mystery series.
So far, viewers have the addition of Streep to look forward to, a feat that was re-confirmed with a post of Gomez fangirling the veteran actress. Per The Blast, the 30-year-old singer-songwriter had uploaded a snapshot of her and the 73-year-old looking at each other lovingly on Instagram.
The "Wizards of Waverly" donned a shiny, gold dress adorned with a black collar and tear-drop earrings. At the same time, her legendary counterpart wore an oversized coat with shimmering black lapels over what appeared to be a blue outfit. She tamed her blond hair with a big 360 braid and added black earrings. For the caption, Gomez wrote:
"Well we wrapped season 3 of @onlymurdershulu -I'm not sure I have enough words to explain just how beautiful this season has been. It has been deliriously hilarious, challenging and for me, an absolute dream. I'll post more soon. But I'II | leave it with the woman 1 adore, look up to and love."
Both celebs and fans reacted positively to the update, with Kerry Washington writing, "Amazing ❤️❤️," and Mario Lopez's wife, Courtney, excitedly commenting, "THIS PHOTO FOREVER ❤️."
As for her fans, one typed, "No need for words. The picture paints a thousand already 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥," and another chimed, "You two ladies look very lovely and beautiful, and I can't wait to see season 3."
A third netizen declared that they could only "see two legends," — a sentiment that others agreed with by liking the comment. At the same time, several other fans coined "Only Legends In The Building," a play on the show's name.
Steve Martin Disclosed The Premiere Date For The Comedy Series Recently
Amid the show of love under his costar's post, Martin divulged that the official release date for "OMITB" was just a few months away. The actor had done the deed while warming up the audience at his "You Won't Believe What They Look Like Today!" touring show featured Short, Jeff Babko, and The Steep Canyon Rangers last month.
Variety reported that two of the event's attendees recounted that Short and Martin had led up to the moment when they were updating the audience on their recent projects. After they had shown a picture of Gomez alongside that of Streep and Rudd, Martin stated, "Catch the new season on August 8."
The revelation was followed by Short replying, "Our show is like Steve trying to pee — it streams for 33 minutes." Unfortunately, no audience member could capture the event on camera, so there is no visual proof.
Despite that, fans are excited about the show's return, which follows the comedic duo in their roles as Charles-Haden Savage [Martin], Oliver Putnam [Short], and Gomez as Mabel Mora.
The trio, neighbors at the Arconia — an Upper West Side building — formed a friendship born out of their love of true crime podcasts and ended up starting their own as mysterious killings happened around them.
For its first season, they uncovered the murder of their fellow resident Tim Kono [played by Julian Cihi]. They did so again for Bunny Folger [Jayne Houdyshell], the building's board president, in season 2.
