Chelsea Handler Says Jo Koy 'Was Not My Person'
It's been almost a year since Koy and Handler ended their relationship, and the TV personality has been open about their time together and why they ended it. During an episode on the "Now What" podcast with Brooke Shields, Handler said their relationship was an excellent example of a "seminal" or "now what" situation in her life.
She said, per People, "I believed that this was my guy. I thought, 'Oh, my God, I won.' Like I got everything. I have my career; I have respect; I have my family; I have so many friends; I have all of these things. And then I thought this would be the person I spend my life with."
The TV personality explained that because of Koy, she was open to marriage, and they discussed it seriously because it was an essential topic for the comedian. She added, "And then, towards the end of the relationship, it became clear that this was not my person."
They Couldn't Agree On Certain Behaviors
During her interview with Shields, Handler explained that she and Koy eventually couldn't agree on "some behaviors." The actress explained that she felt like she'd had to "abandon" herself to accept certain situations with Koy, which she'd only have done if she was much younger.
She said, "No matter how much I loved this person — and I loved him so much — I was not going to abandon myself. I am not going to change the way that I behave to make you feel more comfortable. I'm not doing that, and I had to walk away from something I believed would be a forever relationship. So that was difficult."
