NBC has confirmed the renewal of the freshman comedy series, "Lopez vs. Lopez." The George Lopez starring sitcom will officially return for a second season. However, while one show has been renewed, The Hollywood Reporter states that NBC is delaying decisions on other comedies and upcoming pilots due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) labor strike.

'Lopez vs. Lopez' Receives Season 2 Pickup From NBC Amid WGA Strike Delays

In the press release confirming the show's season two pickup, NBC touted the show's viewership for the highest concentration of English-dominant Hispanic homes for all primetime broadcast shows. Also, the series has received the highest portion of long-tail viewing among all NBC comedies on Peacock for live + 35 viewings.

Universal Television produces the series in association with Mohawk Productions, Travieso Production, Mi Vida Loba, and 3 Arts. The show stars George Lopez ("George Lopez," "Rio," "Valentine's Day"), Mayan Lopez, Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Matt Shively, and Al Madrigal.

The series follows the elder Lopez as the owner of a moving company who has gone bankrupt and moves into his daughter Mayan's home. After being estranged from his daughter for most of his teenage years, they seek to reconcile their relationship.

Regarding other shows, THR notes that due to the ongoing WGA strike and a further shift to year-round programming, the fates of other NBC shows will not b made clear until the upfront presentations scheduled for next week. So for now, it's unknown what the chances of "Grand Crew," "Young Rock," and "American Auto" will be until the upfront presentations. Those are NBC's three remaining bubble shows at the moment. The four pilots up to receive series orders are the sitcoms "Non-Evil Twin," "St. Denis Medical," and the dramas "Murder by the Book" and "Wolf."

Also, THR reports that NBC will not decide the future of the bubble comedies or piots above until after the upfront presentations to ad buyers. NBC will unveil its full-scripted originals at next week's upfront presentations to ad buyers at Madison Avenue. NBC is shifting to a year-round programming plan over a traditional fall and spring season due to the strike with the WGA going against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), representing the studios.

"Lopez vs. Lopez" will reportedly return to NBC for midseason alongside other returning scripted shows, "Law & Order: Organized Crime," "La Brea," and "Magnum P.I." The length of the WGA strike will ultimately determine what shows can return in the fall season and when. THR notes that NBC and CBS have not factored the strike into their fall schedules.

Meanwhile, series star George Lopez is set to star in the upcoming D.C. comic book superhero film, "Blue Beetle," later this summer. Lopez will portray Rudy, the uncle of Jaime Reyes' ("Cobra Kai's" Xolo MaridueƱa) character. Reyes discovers a strange scarab that gives him a high-tech suit of armor, enabling him to access vast powers and become the hero known as the Blue Beetle. The film hits theaters on August 18.

The first "Lopez vs. Lopez" season is now streaming on Peacock.
