Lindsay Lohan & Jamie Lee Curtis Are Interested In A Follow-Up To Their Top-Charting Movie Together
Speculation surrounding a proposed "Freaky Friday 2" began in February when Curtis uploaded an image of her and Lohan on social media with the caption, "It's Friday. I'm just saying! Freaky fingers crossed!"
Along with the 355,000 likes the post got, it also generated a hopeful conversation in the comment section, with one fan happily gushing, "Oh God, it's (almost) Happening!!! Please, Disney!!!!."
Another ecstatic fan commented, "Whaaaaaaa!????!! ๐๐๐," and a third asked, "WE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER??" "Now this is a sequel that WE WANT!" a fourth netizen exclaimed, as a fifth declared, "One of the best Disney movies, and all thanks to your acting."
While the Instagram update was significant, something even bigger happened when the on-screen mother-daughter duo reunited for a conversation with The New York Times to celebrate the movie's 20th anniversary.
During the interview, the now-64-year-old Curtis revealed that she received constant requests about a possible "Freaky Friday" sequel while promoting her 2022 film, "Halloween Ends." It was at that time that she felt a shift, as she recounted:
"Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there's a movie to be made.'"
The actress' feelings were reechoed by the now-34-year-old Lohan, who stated, "Jamie and I are both open to that, so we're leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would adore."
Just before that, the "Mean Girls" actress recalled being part of the original flick, "As an 11-year-old, 'The Parent Trap' felt so big to me. I threw myself into accents, green screens, and playing two people. So I felt comfortable after that. 'Freaky Friday' felt different because I was going through all of the phases of a 16-year-old [but playing a character who was a year younger]."
Last November, the Grammy Award winner shared that the "right people are talking" about a sequel. During the conversation, which happened at the premiere of her 2022 mystery film, "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," she stated:
"We're both committed to it, and it's not ours to make. It's Disney's to make, and I think they're interested, and we're talking."
The 'Just My Luck' Lead Celebrated Her On-Screen Mom's Birthday With An Adorable Post
Lohan ensured that Curtis' 64th birthday was memorable when she took to social media to post a throwback image of her and her make-believe mom. Per The Blast, the snap showed the "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" star and the "Knives Out" actress looking at each other sincerely and affectionately.
"Happy Birthday, @jamieleecurtis love you! Wishing you love and joy on your birthday!" the "I Live for the Day" singer wrote alongside a string of emojis, including a cake, prayer hands, party poppers, and celebration bells.
Curtis herself marked her big day by reflecting on her life through a lengthy caption on Instagram that began, "TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY! First, I would like to thank Janet Leigh for bringing me here. I also want to thank her for her example as a woman who spent most of her life helping others."
"My little company @my_hand_in_yours is growing, and we still have a $25,000 matching grant from @portosbakery through the end of the month," the celebrant wrote before adding:
"There's still a week to go. We are nearing the grant. Remember that every item in this store, every cent spent is sent to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles so you can still give twice with the grant and give every day with the beautiful connection to the care and treatment of critically, ill and injured children @childrensla come join us."
The "little company" in question is the Academy Award-winning actress' charity, which became an instant hit thanks to Dorit Kemsley making it "s chic" on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills."
