Still, once she got older, she realized she disagreed with the Church's beliefs,, so she decided to leave the Church and begin her social media career. "I struggled the first six months. The first month was super hard. I didn't want to leave originally. I wasn't ready. It's a huge sacrifice to leave your family. I missed my family so much. I loved them so much. I felt like I disappointed them, that I was a shame and disgrace," she told Glamour. "I struggled because that was my family and life for seven years. It was most of my teenage and college years. I wasn't ready to give up my family."

The 37-year-old decided to write a book called "Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church" to discuss her experience in the Church and bring awareness. When speaking to Glamour about her book, Lauren Drain Kagan explained what made her realize she needed to leave Westboro Baptist Church.

"I knew there were verses that talked about not judging. And I also knew some verses talked about you should judge, but judge righteously…I knew there were these conflicting verses, and I wanted to know how we would justify that since we were being so judgmental. That's an example of how we didn't have a full answer," she said.
