Priyanka Chopra recently opened up about a botched nose job that nearly derailed her acting career. The surgery left her looking "completely different" and caused her to lose out on three film projects.

Chopra eventually made her film debut in the 2002 film "Thamizhan." She went on to star in the landmark ABC series "Quantico," becoming the first South Asian actor to lead an American network TV show. Chopra has undergone several corrective surgeries on her nose but has learned to accept her slightly altered appearance.

Priyanka Chopra revealed that she had a nose job gone wrong which left her feeling "depressed" and unable to work. In an interview on "The Howard Stern Show," The "Citadel" actress shared that in the summer of 2001, she had a polyp in her nasal cavity, and her doctor advised her to undergo surgery to remove it.

Unfortunately, the surgery didn't go as planned, leaving her with a "completely different" look. "While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose, and the bridge collapsed," she recalled, per Insider. "When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn't me anymore."

'It Was A Dark Phase'

As a result of her altered appearance, Chopra was fired from three film projects. The setback left her feeling hopeless and unsure about her career in acting. "It was a dark phase," she recalled.

The 40-year-old also confided that she found it difficult to leave her house but was encouraged by her late father to undergo corrective surgery. "He said, 'I will be in the room with you.' He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence," she said.

After facing setbacks due to her botched nose job, Chopra eventually made her film debut in the 2002 movie "Thamizhan." However, her appearance in the 2003 movie "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy" helped her regain her confidence and find her footing in the industry again.

The former Miss India World credits director Anil Sharma for giving her a chance when the odds were against her. Opening up about her ordeal, she shared, "I was supposed to play this lead, and I was shifted to a supporting character. That filmmaker was very kind."

"While the tide was against me, he said, 'It will be a small part but give it your all.' And I did," she added.

The experience on set was positive for the actress, as it helped her regain her confidence and set her career on an upward trajectory.

Since a botched nose job nearly derailed her career, Chopra has made an incredible comeback and has achieved great success in Hollywood.

In 2015, Chopra made history as the first South Asian actor to star in a lead role on an American network TV show with her performance in the ABC series "Quantico." She played the character of an FBI recruit at the Quantico base in Virginia, and the show ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018.

Since then, she has also appeared in several movies, including the 2019 rom-com "Isn't It Romantic" and "The Matrix Resurrections." She is currently starring in the Amazon Prime series "Citadel," which has been renewed for a second season, alongside "Game of Thrones" star Richard Madden.

Chopra has undergone several corrective surgeries on her nose throughout her career. She has also learned to accept her slightly different appearance and has made peace with it. "Now, when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised," she shared. "I've made peace with this slightly different me."
