After receiving questions from fans about her second pregnancy, Sydel Curry-Lee shared all the details of her pregnancy and more in a YouTube video.
Wife to Damion Lee of the Phoenix Suns and mom to their son Daxon, 17 months, Curry-Lee is currently 23 weeks pregnant with a baby girl. And while many of her fans and followers know about her fertility journey, she wanted to be transparent and respond to the questions she's been receiving.
Sydel Curry-Lee Responds To Questions About Her Second Pregnancy
For anyone who's not following her on Instagram, Curry-Lee made her big announcement early in the YouTube video, "We are expecting another baby!"
The mental health advocate and content creator wrote down all the questions she's been receiving on Instagram and was ready to get to answering them. But before getting into the list of questions, she explained why this pregnancy is a bit different for her than the first one and explained that there have been a lot of "transitions" and changes all at once.
"It's just kind of been a totally different experience for a multitude of reasons," she said.
"Without giving too much away before going into the questions, this has been a completely different pregnancy just in the fact that like I have a whole child to take care of and we moved to a different state. We moved to Arizona in September. We got pregnant in December, so we were only really here in this new environment for a couple of months before this happened."
The first question was one of the most asked questions - IVF again or naturally conceived. Curry-Lee has been open and honest about the fact that her son Daxon was conceived through IVF. She has shared her struggles and a look into her fertility journey on social media for anyone who can relate.
"This was an IVF baby. We didn't have to do another egg retrieval or IVF cycle. We had nine embryos left over, and so we just transferred another embryo and thankfully it worked on the first time," she said.
"I transferred on December 3 in the Bay Area. All of our embryos are still in California, and that's where they will remain.
The next question Curry-Lee responded to was, "How did we decide on the age gap? How did you know you were ready for another baby?"
She said she always knew she wanted at least two children, or maybe four children, but she will figure that out after this baby's arrival. Curry-Lee said that when Daxon started sleeping through the night, and everyone started getting "consistent sleep," the thought of another baby came to be.
"We didn't know exactly what the age gap was going to be. I said I wanted to push them out and get them over with and then kind of start really raising them together, but I didn't know that it was gonna be this soon after," she explained.
"Daxon had just turned one like two weeks, maybe a week-and-a-half before we transferred this embryo, so Daxon will be 22 months, so almost 2 years old when this baby is born."
Shortly After The Transfer, Sydel Curry-Lee Felt Symptoms
The mental health advocate said she started feeling symptoms two days after the transfer, sleeping deeply, having vivid dreams and getting snack cravings.
"I would text Damion and I was like this is weird, I think it might have worked cause these are the things I'm feeling," she said.
"I tested three days after the transfer. I tested every day up until day 14 past transfer and it just kept getting darker and darker and darker and dark. I think on day seven post transfer I got a big fat positive on a digital test."
Curry-Lee's due date is August 23, which is also her brother Seth Curry's birthday, but she doesn't think she will actually give birth on that day because she was induced at 41 weeks with Daxon. But she did say it would be cool if her baby and her brother shared a birthday.
One person asked if she picked the gender of the baby, and Curry-Lee said they did. She explained that the process of IVF can be so stressful, so they decided one of the pluses is to be able to choose the baby's gender. The couple decided since they have a boy, they would choose to have a girl this time around, so if they decide to not have any more children, they have one of each.
Other questions Curry-Lee responded to during the YouTube video were about how she told her husband she's pregnant, cravings she's had, mental health, and teasers about the baby's name (which will start with the letter D). Curry-Lee ended her video by sharing a baby bump view and saying she'll be back next week with more content.
