Matthew Lawrence Shares His Sexual Harassment Incident
Speaking on his podcast, "Brotherly Love," Lawrence opened up about an agonizing time for him in the film industry, per Insider.
The actor shared that he was once sexually harassed by "a very prominent" director who assured him that he would get a role in Marvel if he gave into his lewd demands.
Describing the incident, Lawrence claimed that his agency sent him to the hotel room of the showrunner to meet with him.
And when he got there, the director "showed up in his robe, asked me to take my clothes off, said he needed to take Polaroids of me, and said if I did X, Y, and Z, I would be the next Marvel character."
However, Lawrence said he refused to do so, and he left the room but realized that his agency had fired him, seemingly for his actions.

Lawrence shared a clip from the podcast episode on his Instagram page, which he captioned, "We get into it!! NEW episode of the brotherlylovepod out now!"
Elsewhere, he acknowledged the incident with the unnamed director was not the first time he was "propositioned to get a huge role," adding that it has happened to many people he knows.
"A lot of my other male friends have gone through this with both men and women in this industry, but there's a double standard," the actor said.
Regarding his remark, Lawrence referenced Terry Crews, who was allegedly "groped" by a Hollywood agent. He said that when Crews finally came out publicly about the issue, most people did not take him seriously.
"Terry Crews comes out and says it, and people were laughing at him," Matthew said.
Fans React To Matthew Lawrence's Shocking Claim
In the comment section of the clip, fans also mentioned the names of other male stars who have faced sexual harassment cases.
One fan said, "Agreed. Look how Brenden Frasier was treated after he spoke up. I haven't heard Terry's story, but I'm not surprised by any of this. Hollywood is dark."
Another fan noted, "And yet people like @cdogg22 Corey Feldman get ridiculed for speaking out for years. As eccentric as he is, he's been saying it for years and years."
Some other fans thanked the actor for sharing his story, despite how traumatic the incident was for him.
A fan commented, "We love you, Matt. Thank you for being so vulnerable on such a difficult topic. You didn't deserve this. It's so disturbing to me. You and your brothers deserve all that is good in this world."
A third person said, "We all appreciate your vulnerability."

While Lawrence has had some bad experiences with the film industry, he has also experienced the positive side.
In March 2022, he shared that he didn't fall into the drug life many celebs have indulged in due to advice from Williams, whom he starred with in the 1993 film "Mrs. Doubtfire."
"'Don't ever do drugs. Especially cocaine,'" Lawrence recalled his conversation with Williams, who died by suicide in 2014, per People magazine.
He added that the actor was "earnest" about the comment and used his life as a case study.
Lawrence further lauded Williams, saying the late actor played a part in him getting the role of Chris Hillard — Williams' character's son — in "Mrs. Doubtfire."
