Keke Palmer Speaks About Being A New Mother
Keke Palmer is opening up about being a new mom to Leodis "Leo" Andrellton, whom she had with longtime boyfriend Darius Jackson. During an interview with People Magazine for their "Pretty in Pink" portfolio, Palmer gave her fellow new moms some helpful advice, especially about the changes in their bodies.
She said new moms should avoid the pressure of "bouncing back" to their pre-pregnancy bodies. Palmer said, "There's always this thing of, 'How'd they do it?' And I think the main thing I would say to any new mom is to do what you can when you can, whatever makes you feel good."
The singer and actress added that women should decide what works for them, whether regaining their bodies or resting. She said, "Get you whatever diet you want or workout regimen that works for you. And if that's not what you're worried about, don't worry."
Keke Palmer Urges New Moms To Prioritize Themselves
During the interview, Palmer said that after birthing her son, she didn't "want to do nothing" or be around anyone. She said, "Then I was like, 'I need to talk to somebody. I need to do something.' Then I was like, 'Now I want to get active.' It changes, so go at your own pace."
The "Akeelah and the Bee" actress also encouraged new mothers to always "keep it real" and avoid getting tangled in the "hype of it all." She clarified that celebrities who quickly snap back into their previous bodies just do it as "part of the damn gig."
She said, "A part of our jobs is to look good and to look the part. So don't think it's this thing where it's like, 'We doing it because we got it like that.' No, the job is on the line. If we want the checks to get signed, we got to be what we got to be."
Her Health Journey As A Mom
Palmer also talked with People about her health journey, saying she had it on her feelings about her body. She said she's learned from that experience to always "do what makes me feel happy."
Palmer said, "If I need to hold it back and do a little more work, or [if] I want to feel better about myself, I just do it. Other times I'm like, 'Yo, pull up in the drive-through. I want the number five, large.' You know what I mean? I do what I feel when I need to because sometimes taking it easy is what you need."

Palmer is enjoying her time as a new mother with her baby boy before the busy period starts with her new album. The "Alice" actress is releasing her album, "Big Boss," and a same-titled visual film on KeyTV.
She talked about the projects with People and said, "The movie and the album follow my journey in the music industry and how I came to own and be proud of being an independent artist and lone wolf in many ways. But in the movie, you start to see that we often create this lone wolf identity for ourselves, even though we have so much love around us."
The singer also said this journey has discovered "what it means to validate yourself and what it means to go where the love is." Palmer also added that she's realized that people always create their best work from "those that already support you."
