R. Kelly hopes to get those pesky New York sexual assault charges dropped by claiming the jurors were against him.
R. Kelly Is Looking For A Reprieve
The disgraced singer and his team have officially filed the paperwork to appeal those federal sex crime charges he racked up in New York City. While he has many reasons why these charges need to go, his biggest one is that some jury members already had a bias toward him.
According to legal docs, the “Fiesta” singer was officially charged in 2021 and had nine counts of charges, including RICO charges, sex-related charges, and human trafficking. The documents obtained by TMZ also detail the raw deal that Kelly received.
Kelly and his team claim that the government hasn’t exactly proven that he was guilty of anything. Yeah, they made their case and said their opening and closing, but his team wants to know, what did they prove?
The Jurors Are Singing Like Birds
Kelly and his legal team also insist that since the trial has ended, some jury members have bragged about never liking Kelly. The problem here is this shows they had some malice towards the entertainer ahead of the trial beginning.
Thus, making them more likely to vote to convict him when deliberation occurs, which… look where he is now. Specifically, they claim that at least four jury members had admitted to this malice, and another two had watched the Surviving R. Kelly documentary on Lifetime network.
Plus, R. Kelly is again claiming that the girls the government is identifying as underage that were victims of his grooming and molesting were all actually over 18! As for the girls that turned up underage with proof, Kelly’s team says that they lied to and misled him.
Evidence Against R. Kelly Was A Mess Too
The singer and his team also had an explanation for all the evidence against Kelly. They believe that some evidence heard over the trial should have never been allowed in the courtroom, specifically, the details of his sex life and the STD conversation around it.
They think the sex talk was a way for them to manipulate the jury. They also slammed former friends and employees of Kelly who falsely testified on things that had nothing to do with them. This alone has Kelly and his team unimpressed with how the trial went down.
It has prompted them to file the appeal to reverse his conviction or at least have the opportunity to have a new trial. R. Kelly is also stuck with 20 years for his charges in Chicago. He has yet to appeal that one, but after this move, it seems it’s not totally out of the question.
Kelly has always maintained his innocence in all the charges filed against him and has been fighting back tirelessly from prison.
