Last week, The Blast reported a pay increase for Walt Disney World Disney College Program participants.
Now, more Cast Members will soon receive a raise.
Disneyland Security To Get $8 Raise
According to the Orange County Register, Disneyland Resort security guards will soon receive an $8 per hour raise, which will come in phases over the next two years.
The initial $6 raise went into effect on April 1, 2023. The next $1 raise will go into effect on April 1, 2024, and another $1 raise on April 1, 2025. Once the pay raise is in effect, the minimum wage will be $26/hour. Before coming to this agreement, the Disneyland security guard's starting wage was $18.10 per hour.
"We are more than pleased with the wage increase we were able to negotiate," David Hickey, Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) 's international president, said regarding the pay increase agreement.
Over 1,300 Disneyland Resort security Cast Members are represented by SPFPA.
"The attitude about coming to work has changed, forcing companies to pay more," Hickey said. "We have negotiations coming up at Disney World in Florida. They're looking to have a major wage increase there, too." He said they also have plans to improve scheduling.
He continued, "With COVID-19, companies have had difficulty scheduling enough people when some employees don't or can't come to work. Our union will work with Disneyland to have more input in scheduling. Our history with Disney around the country will help us deal with issues that may arise."
Disney's Hourly Minimum Wage Increased
This news comes just days after Cast Members and the company agreed to their hourly minimum wage increase. Disney Cast Members will receive a minimum wage of $17/hour now, with $18/hour promised by December 2023. Additionally, Disney Cast Members will receive a minimum of a $5.50 raise over the next five years under the new agreement, with the first $3 promised by December 2023.
Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle issued a statement with the union's announcement, sharing, "Our Cast Members have always been at the heart of the Walt Disney World experience, and we are thrilled that, with the support of the union, they have overwhelmingly approved this new five-year agreement that significantly increases wages, alongside our leading benefits program that includes affordable medical coverage and more. Frontline Cast Members also have access to 100 percent paid tuition for higher education through the Disney Aspire program."
Walt Disney World College Program participants will also see a raise as they receive $16/hour for their work at the Most Magical Place on Earth. This marks a $2/hour increase from its previous $14/hour rate.
"We are happy to share that the hourly rate of pay for the Disney College Program is increasing," Disney Programs shared in a Facebook post. "Beginning June 4, all Disney College Program participants will receive a starting hourly rate of $16, an increase of two dollars per hour. This increase will apply to participants currently in the program and any future participants."
