Issa Rae Warns Fans To 'Form Their Own Opinion' On 'Barbie' Movie

Issa Rae is excited for fans to see the Barbie movie but does not make the mistake of asking her to spill details about the film.

The writer and actress are tight-lipped about the movie that hits theatres in July. At AT&T's Game Ball Experience last week, she gushed about the project and its potential. "It's been amazing," she told People magazine, who interviewed her at the event.

She is even more excited about the fan's reaction to the full-length trailer's release. "I'm super, super excited that people are excited, and I'm just sitting back waiting for it all to come out." When asked to elaborate on the comedy, Rae simply couldn't.

"I can't confirm or deny anything," she joked. People were prompted to ask because Issa's Barbie ad says, "This Barbie is President." She has the sash and everything. The ads don't mean anything because Rae can't confirm her character is president.

"You're not about to get me in trouble. I'm going to let [director] Greta [Gerwig] and [star] Margot [Robbie] take the lead, and I'm shutting the f**k up and sitting back, laugh Rae.

The 38-year-old is sure that the movie will be a hit and hopes fans give it a shot. "You got to watch it to find out and form your opinion," she insists. "I know they want people to go in and enjoy it as is without too many expectations, so I want that for y'all too."

She also went to bat for Gerwig and her partner and co-writer Noah Baumbach's writing skills, calling them "amazing." She thinks what the writers have done is genius. "I'm such a fan, and I just feel super honored because she thought about me for this."

She continued, "It was such a fun project to be a part of. I'm shouting it from the rooftops." It was recently revealed via the trailer that the Barbies are being modeled off of real Barbies that were once purchased. Not sure why social media thought it would be different, but the cast is rounded out by a slew of Barbies, new and old!

The actress is attached to President Barbie, but the likes of scientist Barbie, the original first-ever Barbie (who star Margot Robbie's ad bathing suit is modeled after) Mermaid Barbie as we saw Dua Lipa bring to life.

There is also Doctor Barbie, who made her debut in the 70s, foreign affairs Barbie, Supreme Court Justice Barbie, Lawyer Barbie, and, well, you get it.

A few of her friends also join Barbie. For example, pregnant Barbie is Midge, who was introduced as Barb's friend in the 60s; when they released a knocked-up version of her in the early 2000s, she was swiftly pulled off the shelf. Gerwig is, of course, using the preggo version in her film.

And, of course, we will see Ken of all sorts, with Gosling's version going on an adventure with Robbie's Barbie.
