Amanda Kloots Addresses Her Son Understanding His Dad Nick Cordero's Death

Things have not changed since Cordero passed away from COVID-19 complications in 2020, leaving Kloots to raise their child alone while dealing with her grief publicly. As it turns out, the "The Talk" co-host has also been preparing herself for the impending misery that their boy will feel when his dad's absence finally dawns on him.

Elvis, who was 13 months old at the time of the "Bullets Over Broadway" actor's death, has already begun steering some of his conversations with his doting mom toward his father's death. Reflecting on those instances, Kloots recently told PEOPLE:

"There have been some times where he has gotten sad where we're talking about Nick, and he says, 'But Dada died.' And then he'll get very, very sad, which is heartbreaking as a parent, obviously."

The dancer, who admitted that she has not had to "deal too much" with the three-year-old boy's grief, added, "It's coming, and that'll be a whole new layer for me and my grief and helping him get through that and understanding that. So that's coming up for me. I know it's not probably too long away."

While she waits for the toddler to reach that inevitable point, Kloots is dedicated to keeping his father's memory alive since he was too young when tragedy struck. To that end, the "Dancing with the Stars" contestant has taken to "incorporating" Cordero into Elvis's life.

Additionally, the 41-year-old hopes her book will help the adorable boy connect with his dad, bringing the twice-nominated Drama Desk Awards star into his dreams. She previously spoke about what she hoped readers would gain from reading "Tell Me Your Dreams" during a "The Talk" episode, where she said:

"It's really hard sometimes for adults to talk to children about death and how to incorporate it. It's really a tough subject; you don't know how to do it."

Per The Blast, the "Fit for Christmas" actress further shared that it was after she wrapped up the children's book that she realized it would be "a great way" for parents to "incorporate" those that they lost in their family to help their kids.

'The Talk' Host Highlights Valuable Lessons From Her Late Husband's Hospitalization

When the date of Cordero's hospitalization anniversary rolled around earlier this month, his widow shared what she learned from the experience. As reported by The Blast, the television personality uploaded a snapshot of the Theatre World Awards winner throwing their baby boy up in the air on Instagram.

Beneath the bittersweet image, Kloots penned that the events from March 30, 2020, would never leave her brain's memory as it was her last day with her beau. The caption continued and read:

"There are days in my life I wish I could go back in time to, and this is one of them. If I could, I'd give him the biggest kiss. If I could, I'd hold him in a never ending hug and If I could, I'd tell him "I love you" one million times."

After mentioning that she was "so foolish that day" thinking she would see Cordero in two hours, the fitness instructor stated that she has "learned to say different goodbyes" and to "always tell people you love them."

The mother-of-one concluded the emotional tribute by asking her followers and fans to "live and love" as much as possible. The post has earned numerous likes and comments from people agreeing with her sentiment. One netizen even called the "Young Frankenstein" actress "a true inspiration to millions who've lost a loved one."
