According to a report by People magazine, Swift and Alwyn broke up mainly over their "differences in their personalities."

An insider close to the duo shared that the ex-couple had "rough patches before and always worked things out," but they finally decided they "weren't the right fit for one another."

They were first linked in May 2017, although it is unclear when they started their relationship as they kept their private lives away from the media.

Throughout their six-year-long relationship, they collaborated to create some of Swift's hit songs, such as "Champagne Problems" and "Evermore."

Neither Swift nor Alwyn has opened up about the split, although the former was recently seen singing their song "Champagne Problems" emotionally during a recent gig.

This came after she made some last-minute alterations to the set to include the song, whose track tells the scenario of two lovers dealing with a botched proposal.

Other issues that reportedly spurred the breakup includes an alleged discomfort Alwyn felt over the limelight their relationship faced due to Swift's fame.

"Joe has struggled with Taylor's level of fame and the attention from the public," said an insider, per People.

The duo, who was once rumored to be engaged, had reportedly talked about marriage before their recent and "not dramatic" split.

However, the singer didn't see them "working out in the long run" and chose to end their romance.

"They are friendly. She doesn't have anything bad to say about Joe," said an insider about the pair's relationship. "They just grew apart. Taylor is staying very focused on her tour right now."

Does 'Champagne Problems' Explain Her Breakup With Joe Alwyn

Following Swift's emotional performance of the song, fans of the singer have further speculated that she gave clues about her breakup in her "Champagne Problems" track, fueled by Swift's penchant for dropping "Easter eggs" in her songs for her beloved fans.

One such clue seemingly lies in a part of the song that reads," 'She would've made such a lovely bride/ What a shame she's f**ked in the head,' they said,/ But you'll find the real thing instead,/She'll patch up your tapestry that I shred."

A fan speculated, "Just a theory…maybe it's a Champagne Problem kind of breakup? I mean, they've kept the relationship so private.. so probably Joe Alwyn proposed to Taylor Swift, but then Tay said no…."

"But Joe Alwyn tried to understand and be okay with not getting married, but then over time, he got tired of trying and ended up giving up, hence the break up (?)."
