There are only a handful of episodes left in season 3 of "The Mandalorian," but actor Giancarlo Esposito wants to assure "Star Wars" fans that his character, Moff Gideon, will appear this season.

Moff Gideon was hauled away to face interrogation by the New Republic, but in last week's episode, fans learned that he escaped. Was he kidnapped? Was he rescued by the Empire?

That is what fans are anxious to find out, but with only two episodes left in the season, the clock is ticking as to when he will actually appear in season 3.

From April 7 to April 10, many Star Wars fans traveled to London for the annual Star Wars Celebration fan event. While there, Esposito spoke to Entertainment Weekly during their Dagobah Dispatch podcast and confirmed that he will return in season 3.

When asked what Moff Giden has been up to in these past six episodes, Esposito teased, "That's for me to know and you to find out," prompting speculation that his escape from the New Republic will eventually be shown on screen.

"I've been regaining my dignity and harnessing all of my energy with a plan," Esposito went on, determined to make his villain seem more mysterious than ever.

"And that's the real golden egg of great writing is that you tease it, but you also tantalize the audience. And as well as doing that, you strike fear in them," Esposito explained. "Because the longer you don't see me, the more pissed off I'm going to be when you do."

Although Giancarlo Esposito admits that he knew that his character had been captured by the New Republic, he didn't realize how long it would really be until fans saw him back on screen again.

"I didn't really know that. I had a sense of it as time went by and I knew that they were cooking up something really great for Moff Gideon, which you'll soon be apprised of," he explained. "But the creators of the show are so very specific in what they do in their timing within the season. Episodes are built to excite and give you anticipation, so I trust that they know exactly where I should enter and how that should be played out."

Although Esposito would have loved to keep up with what the other characters in a galaxy far, far away are up to, he revealed that "We don't often get scripts if we're not in them," which means that he might not even be aware that Din Djarin handed off the Darksaber to Bo-Katan Kryze last episode.

"I think it's just the way of trying to keep things under wraps for our creators. So you make a phone call and you say, 'Hey, what's happening? What's the plan?' And they're tightlipped in giving you little clues as to what may happen," he explained.

That being said, it doesn't really bother Esopito to be kept out of the loop. "I'm one of those actors who doesn't really need to know," he said, adding that showrunner Jon Favreau will "call me and say something along the lines of possibly this or that, or the other. And I'm like, 'I'm here to serve. Let me know when you need me.'"

Although the third season has focused on the Mandalorians so far, Esposito knew that Moff Gideon would appear in a galaxy far, far away again... eventually. "At a certain point within, we need mirrors. We need mirrors for the light and the dark, the good and the evil. We need to see mirrors of ourselves," he explained. "And I think that's why this show is so successful, because we're able to see the struggle on a larger scale of a people who want to reclaim something they've lost."

It will be interesting to see how Moff Gideon impacts the ultimate goal of Mandalorian reunification and reclaiming their home planet.

"They are having a hard time getting it together to bring the disparate parts of their own people together. And while that confusion is there, somewhere out there is someone who wants to really take over and has another agenda," he explained. "And so that excitement is always there and it's always a wonderful thing to play a character like Moff Gideon, because at the right moment I'm going come in and surprise you."

"The Mandalorian" is available to stream on Disney+. New episodes are available every Wednesday.
