Emily Ratajkowski On Why She Walked Away From Acting
Emily Ratajkowski explained why she decided to leave the Hollywood film industry despite her growing success as an actress. During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Ratajkowski shared that she left more like a "piece of meat" than a talented artist.
The 31-year-old revealed she was tired of playing by the "boys' club's rules," so she quit. She said, per Daily Mail, "I didn't feel like, 'Oh, I'm an artist performing, and this is my outlet.' I felt like a piece of meat which people were judging, saying, 'Does she have anything else other than her [breasts]?'"
In early 2020, Ratajkowski decided to fire her manager, acting agent, and commercial rep, because she no longer trusted them. She stated, "I was like, "I can handle receiving phone calls. I'm going to make these decisions. None of you have my best interest at heart. And you all hate women."'
She Had Several Roles In Successful Films
During her time in Hollywood, Ratajkowski featured in several successful and acclaimed films, her first being "Gone Girl," alongside Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. After the success of that film, Ratajkowski switched her focus to roles that would establish her as a "serious actress with longevity."
She then landed roles in multiple successful films, like Amy Schumer's "I Feel Pretty," Zac Efron's "We Are Your Friends," and the Netflix series "Easy." Ratajkowski's last audition was for the 2020 movie "Triangle Sadness," a role she eventually lost to the late Charlbi Dean Kriek.
Emily Ratajkowski Discussed Her Romance With Pete Davidson
Ratajkowski also spoke about her previous relationship with comedian and actor Pete Davidson during her interview with L—the Times. There's been a lot of public speculation on how Davidson manages to appeal to beautiful women like Ratajkowski and Kim Kardashian, whom he dated for a while.
Ratajkowski shared that even her friends were interested in her relationship with the former SNL star, which she never understood. She said, "People are so perplexed by the idea that a man might just be respectful to women and treat them like people and thus be easy to go out on dates with."
Ratajkowski and Davidson were first linked shortly after she split from her husband, Sebastian Bear McClard. They were romantically involved for a few months but eventually decided to remain friends by December 2022. At the time, a source told Page Six, "Their fling has moved into the friend zone, which is fine with both of them."
She Recalled Going To A Party Full Of 'Vile' Hollywood Bosses
The "Lying and Stealing" star also spoke about other issues during the interview, including a story of a party she'd attended with Bear-McClard and his agent while they were still married. Ratajkowski first wrote about the experience in a 2020 essay, sharing that she hated being there.
During Ratajkowski's conversation with L.A. Times, she stated that the party was full of "vile" bosses in Hollywood. She then shared that Bear-McClard's agent had gotten drunk and said she was "like Pamela Anderson before Hep C." Anderson was a film star that revealed she'd gotten diagnosed with the condition in 2002 but later announced that she'd been cured in 2015.
Ratajkowski also spoke about how she started resenting her husband for forcing her to attend the party and being there himself. The model said, "I had a hard time even being at a party like that. But then having a part of me that was so connected to it was even harder."
