Michelle Duggar and her older daughters are breaking their family rule!

One of the hallmarks of the Duggar family has been their modest clothing choices, with the women in the family often wearing long skirts and dresses. However, as seen in a new post, Michelle and some of her girls recently made a bold choice against the norm.

Michelle Duggar And Older Daughters Defy Family Tradition With Bold Wardrobe Choice

To understand the significance of this choice, it is essential to know that the family has long been associated with conservative Christian values, which include a strong emphasis on modesty and purity.

However, during a recent family reunion, Jessa (Duggar) Seewald shared a photo that caught the attention of their fans -- it featured her mother wearing black leggings.

In the snapshot, the 56-year-old and older daughters Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy-Anna wore pants, while the younger siblings Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace, and Josie wore skirts. In the caption, Jessa wrote:

"The older everyone gets, the busier life gets— which means it's always extra special when we manage to get all 9 of us sisters + mom together again in the same place at the same time! Last week was golden. ??."

This rare choice in clothing sparked a conversation among fans about the family's evolving fashion sense in the comments, like this person who was clearly in shock but happy with the difference, stating, "Omg, is mom Duggar wearing PANTS?! ?"

One follower noted, "Wow! Look at all the pants. Times have changed," while another mused somewhat disapprovingly, "So the girls living at home still wear skirts, but now mom wears tight… and yet the little one can't."

This user gushed excitedly, "Michelle in pants ????. Happy for you all." A fourth follower pointed out a detail some might have missed, writing, "Sorry you all. That's not pants. It's an athletic skirt with leggings attached underneath. Take another look!"

Some still need clarification as to why the females in the family must adhere to the strict dress code. A 2019 article by Cheat Sheet explained why they decided to stick to a particular style

The family's patriarch Jim Bob was raised in a Baptist family, and he introduced his wife to a world where God was the top priority. Surprisingly, Michelle was not always religious, but the couple decided to raise their children with a deep devotion to God, which meant minimizing distractions in their upbringing.

Some of the ways they used were that their kids did not attend public school or play on any sports teams, they spent most of their time in church, and they could only enter courtships approved and monitored by their parents.

Wearing jeans was discouraged because they were considered too revealing and could attract unwanted attention from men. The couple believed that jeans showed off curves that might entice men, and to prevent their daughters from giving the wrong impression, they made it a rule to wear skirts that hit below the knee.

Duggar Family's Older Children Opt For Smaller Families As They Move Away From Reality TV

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's large family was a fixture on TLC through their reality show. However, as their children grew and started their own families, they chose to keep their family sizes smaller.

The reason might be that they must have realized that they were not treated as individuals growing up. This shift was evident in the choices of the older children, such as Jill Dillard and Jinger Vuolo, who expressed contentment with having smaller families.

In 2020, The Blast observed that the family's birthday celebrations followed a predictable pattern. Their father would often be seen on their former reality TV show choosing to be frugal by indulging in "kids eat free" specials at local restaurants.

It was also noted that birthday greetings for their kids on social media seemed generic and needed more individual recognition. An example was when they posted a birthday shoutout for their son Jackson and, at first, stated his new age alongside wishes.

However, after being called out by the lack of affection in the post, it was edited to include specific details about the young lad. The all-inclusive messages would also sometimes extend to other occasions like graduations and significant life events.
