The name change came out of nowhere but it’s something that Grimes has dealt with in the past with her son, but before we get into all that, let’s discuss baby question mark. The name is just as surprising as the news that she welcomed a daughter.

Grimes shocked a lot of people when she revealed months after little Exa was born that she had a new baby. She eventually revealed her daughter was carried by a surrogate.

Grimes And Elon Musk Used To Date

The daughter is the second child that Grimes has with Twitter owner Elon Musk. Her first child, son, X AE A-XII Musk is 2 years old and was born in May 2020. There was also drama surrounding her son’s name. as you can see, it’s a bunch of letters that look like they don’t say anything to the naked eye.

However, they are simply calling him “X”. The name they wanted was contested by the government which deemed it not a real name because it wasn’t identifiable and no one could pronounce it.

So “X” it is. Grimes is an unconventional mom so it’s no surprise there that she wants her kids to have out-of-the-box names. In an interview with Vogue, she described her parenting style as somewhat relaxed.

Grimes Kids Call Her ‘Claire’

Grimes revealed that being a mom didn’t come naturally for her. "Being a mother feels weird to say. For some reason, I don’t identify with that word," she admitted to Vogue. "He says Claire, but he doesn’t say Mama.”

Grimes' real name is Claire Boucher and her son doesn’t know her by anything else. "Maybe he like, can sense my distaste for the word 'mother.' Which, I don’t even know why I have a distaste for it, because I respect… I just can’t identify with it, weirdly."

For all those confused by Grimes’ son’s name, she helped them out with a tweet. “X, the unknown variable ⚔️, Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence), A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft).  No weapons, no defenses, just speed.  Great in battle, but non-violent ?+ (A=Archangel, my favorite song)  (⚔️? metal rat),” she tweeted back in 2020.

It may be safe to say that “?” (or Question Mark… do we capitalize it because it’s a name now?) will also be calling her mom by her government name. Do we assume they call dad “Elon” or is he the strict parent?

Another unconventional parenting tactic Grimes has admitted to is watching odd movies with her son. "I’ve watched 'Apocalypse Now' and stuff with my baby," she said. "He's into radical art. Like, he just actually is, and I don't think it's problematic to engage with them on that level."
