Gerard Piqué seemingly doesn’t give two craps about his split from Shakira.
The former FC Barcelona defender recently opened up about his past relationship with the singer and mother of his children.
This is the first time since their shocking breakup last June that the retired fútbol player has candidly spoken out about it.
Gerard Piqué Speaks Out About Life After Shakira
If you’re a fan of Shakira, then you know that she’s expressed her heartbreak, anger and disbelief through song.
She’s had several bangers about Piqué and their split that have topped the charts.
In fact, she recently shared that two of her songs are on the Spotify Global Top 5 chart.
Her “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53” collaboration with Bizarrap, and “TGQ” with Karol G are the songs currently on Spotify’s Global Top 5 chart.
Shakira & Piqué's Breakup Has Helped Her Top Spotify Chart
Despite her success that has come from her heartbreak, the singer has admitted to being “hurt” by Piqué’s alleged cheating and attitude post-breakup.
It’s clear from his interview, his attitude hasn’t changed or shifted.
Speaking to El Pais, the ex-soccer star admitted that since the breakup, “I am very happy. There have been changes in my life and I have been able to maintain my happiness.”
He continued to explain he’s currently doing what he wants and is trying to be true to himself.
Piqué Is 'Very Happy' & Doesn't 'Care About Anybody Else'
Since their split, Shakira has remained single while Piqué quickly moved on with his Kosmos employee, Clara Chia Marti.
She’s in her early 20s and he is in his mid-30s.
Shakira fans have ruthlessly come after him and Marti both online and in public. In fact, a restaurant owner kicked the new couple out of his establishment because his loyalty lies with the Colombian-native.
"The people I care about and the people I love are the ones who know me," Pique said. "I don't care about anyone else."
Clearly the guy has no regrets.
"The day I die, I will look back and hope that I have always done what I wanted to do. I want to be true to myself. I'm not going to spend money cleaning up my image," he said.
While he seems to be solely focusing on himself, he does share two minor children with the songstress.
The couple welcomed Milan in 2013 and Sasha in 2015.
Shakira & Piqué Are Focused On The Well-being Of Their Children
The boys seem to be the only common ground between the exes.
"Everyone has a responsibility to try to do what is best for their children," Piqué explained.
He said it’s a parent’s job is to “protect” their children.
Shakira echoed this sentiment in an interview with journalist Enrique Acevedo.
Shakira is focused on being “lioness” for them.
“That strength comes out of experiencing a painful loss, of accepting it, of tolerating a frustration, of understanding that life doesn’t always bring us what we want,” she explained. “There are dreams that are broken, and you have to pick up the little pieces from the ground and put yourself together again and also be an example to my children.”
