Oprah Winfrey has some advice for the Duke & Duchess of Sussex!
The popular talk show host famously interviewed Prince Harry & Meghan Markle in 2021 when they decided to step back from their royal duties. With rumors swirling about the couple's invitation to King Charles' coronation, the star offered her perspective on the matter during a recent interview.
Oprah Winfrey Weighs In on Harry and Meghan's Possible Attendance at the Coronation
During an appearance on "CBS Mornings" alongside her longtime friend Gayle King, the television icon was asked for her thoughts on whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be attending King Charles' coronation on May 6.
The show's host, who was a guest at Markle's baby shower in 2019, said, "It's been reported that Harry and Meghan have received an invitation to the coronation. Do you think they should go? Do you think they should not go? Is it something you'd like to comment on?" Oprah wisely replied:
"I think they should do what they feel is best for them and for their family. That's what I think. That's what the bottom line comes down to — What do you feel like is the best thing for you?"
The 69-year-old said with a smile that they had not yet asked her opinion. As to whether they were invited in the first place, their spokesperson told The Sunday Times in a statement saying:
"I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty's office regarding the coronation. An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time."
Fans will recall that after retiring from their senior royal roles, the couple moved their family to California, Markle's home state, in 2020. Oprah supported their decision at the time and told TMZ:
"I support them 1,000 percent. You know why I support them? I support them because I believe when you have thought about this as long as they have — and even in the Queen's statement [she] says, 'This has been going on for months,' these discussions have been going on for months."
She also empathized with Prince Harry, who she believed was experiencing the difficulty of choosing a new path, noting that it took courage to give up everything you have known to pursue a new life.
In the comprehensive interview she conducted with the couple in March 2021, the 41-year-old shared her experience of not receiving support when she had suicidal thoughts and how her son Archie was denied a royal title and protection.
Additionally, she revealed that there were "concerns and conversations" regarding her baby's skin color even before he was born. That was not all, early this year, the relationship that might have been salvaged after the TV interview got even more strained when the 38-year-old released his memoir.
King Charles III Reportedly Requests Eviction Of Prince Harry And Meghan Markle From Frogmore Cottage
Things seem to be getting a lot more heated, as according to reports by The Blast, King Charles III requested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle be evicted from their UK home at Frogmore Cottage.
The move appeared to signal his frustration with his son and daughter-in-law and his desire for them to no longer have a residence in the UK. The Sun shared that this might have been a result of the release of Prince Harry's memoir "Spare" in January. Because just days after that, Buckingham Palace allegedly issued an eviction notice to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The memoir chronicled his life in the Royal Family and covered both positive and negative experiences. The publication claimed that the Palace wanted to replace the couple with the King's brother, Prince Andrew, who was attached to Jeffrey Epstein's underage sex ring.
Despite the offer seeming generous, reports suggested Prince Andrew resisted the move. However, it was rumored that the pair would still be compelled to vacate Frogmore Cottage and complete their relocation to the US, regardless of his decision to move in or not.
