Hearts have been crushed in the just concluded 95th Annual Academy Awards! What should have been an eventful night for Angela Bassett and her loyal supporters turned out to be the opposite after the incredible star lost the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role to Jamie Lee Curtis.
Curtis’, who has been popularly nicknamed the “scream queen” for her prominent and influential roles in horror films, put her high-pitched skill to use after victoriously bagging the award sought by other nominees in the category.
Fans Call Out Oscars For Promoting ‘White Mediocrity’ After Jamie Lee Curtis’ Unexpected Win
The “Knives Out” actress finally fulfilled her lifelong dream of winning her first Academy award. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the superhero comedy “Everything Everywhere All At Once” on Sunday in Los Angeles.
Curtis looked stunning, dressed in a sparkling cream and silver dress with corset boning along the torso, as she mounted the stage to receive her award and give a touching acceptance speech dedicated to her husband, her kids, the crew of “EEAAO,” and her parents.
However, the “Halloween” actress’s win came as a shock for lots of fans who were disappointed that she prevailed over frontrunner Bassett, whose work in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” netted Marvel its first-ever Oscar nomination in an acting category.
Nominated alongside Curtis for the supporting actress category, included her “Everything Everywhere All At Once” co-star Stephanie Hsu, as well as “The Whale’s” Hong Chau, and “The Banshees Of Inisherin’s” Kerry Condon.
Expressing her joy after accepting her trophy, Curtis said, “I know it looks like I’m standing up here by myself, but I am not. I am hundreds of people… The group of artists who made this movie, we just won an Oscar”!
She further added, “To all of the people who have supported the genre movies that I’ve made for all these years, the thousands and hundreds of thousands of people… We. Just. Won. An. Oscar. Together! And my mother and my father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories… I just won an Oscar.”
Unimpressed with the outcome of the result, several individuals took to Twitter to convey their displeasure over the news and called out the Academy Awards for snubbing Bassett.
One angrily observed, “Angela Bassett’s reaction hurts me #Oscars 🙁. Attached to this tweet was a short clip that revealed the “Black Panther” actress’s disappointed reaction after the winner was announced.
Another fan shockingly inquired, “Jamie Lee Curtis????? Over Angela Bassett and Stephanie Hsu”??? A third bluntly asserted, “Of course, the #Oscars reward white mediocrity because in what world did Jamie Lee Curtis give a better performance in comparison to Stephanie Hsu or Angela Bassett”?
One commenter expounded their point, writing, “Jamie was barely in that movie there’s no way she got that award over the actual antagonist of the movie and Angela Bassett who gave the performance of a lifetime.”
Meanwhile, a rather pissed-off individual wanted to understand the reason behind Curtis’ win. They wrote, “Angela Bassett played a grieving mother, Stephanie Hsu played a queer multidimensional daughter, and i still don’t know what the f*ck Jamie a** did in everything everywhere.”

They further asked, “can any of you tell me what the F**K Jamie Lee Curtis did in everything everywhere”???? Another wrote, “Stephani Hsu AND Angela Bassett losing to f**king Jamie Lee Curtis. You cannot make this shit up.”
a Twitter user suggested,”Jamie Lee Curtis over Stephanie Hsu and Angela Bassett is so deeply unserious because of all the roles she’s had in her life there is no way she should have won in eeaao. It should have been FREAKY FRIDAY.” They proceeded to shun Curtis over her speech, adding, “WE DGAF ABOUT YOUR PARENTS.”

Bassett Previously Addressed Not Getting Recognized At The 1994 Oscars Ceremony
The “Malcolm X” actress who has gone ahead to make a name for herself in the Hollywood industry seems to have continually been deprived of her shine by the Academy Award organizers.
The 64-year-old, while making an appearance on “CBS Mornings” some days before the premiere of the 95th Academy Awards, explained how she felt about not getting an award for her role in the 1993 Tina Turner’s biopic – “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”
She said, “Of course, in the moment, you’re hoping and praying and wishing… but I don’t walk away thinking I’ve been robbed. That’s too negative of an emotion to carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Bassett concluded, “I choose to believe that there’s a reason why it didn’t happen.”
