The hit Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place" recently celebrated its 15th anniversary.
David Henrie, Selena Gomez, and Jake T. Austin were the stars of Disney Channel‘s hit television show, which followed the Russo family, who may look like an ordinary family with an average restaurant, but behind closed doors, the three children all have magical powers and are training to compete to be the next family wizard.
Despite the show being off the air for several years, David Henrie, who portrays Justin Russo in the show, is down for a reboot.
The Cast Of 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Today
Fans of the show could see the chemistry between the actors and actresses on screen, which helped make the series such a success -- and David Henrie says that chemistry stayed with them off-screen, even all of these years later.
"We've all kind of kept in touch," Henrie told The Blast exclusively. "Yearly or multiple times of year, we all kind of text or say hi to one another."
David Henrie and Selena Gomez portrayed Justin and Alex Russo on the show, the oldest and middle of the Russo Family. Despite the two constantly teasing one another, and always bickering, which often got them into trouble, at the end of the day, fans could see the love the two shared as siblings, which is something that many viewers could relate to in everyday life.
"Selena and I are closest to each other, we definitely [still] talk a lot," Henrie told The Blast. "She's Auntie Selena to my kids, so her and I are the closest, we've kept that sibling relationship."
Is David Henrie Still Open To A 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Reboot?
A few years ago, both Selena Gomez and David Henrie said they were open to do a reboot of the hit Disney Channel series -- and that is still the case today for the Justin Russo actor.
"It would be so fun," Henrie said with a smile when asked about a potential "Wizards of Waverly Place" reboot. "We were a family on and off camera so it was almost too much fun and I think people felt that chemistry when watching the show too, so absolutely I would love to do a reboot. I think it's just about the idea and the when and how and all of that."
In regard to where his character, Justin, is today, Henrie likes to think he has a family and is following in his father's footsteps, teaching his children the ways of wizardry. "I definitely think he has a family," he told The Blast. "When we left him he was professor of Wiztech, so that's where we left him, but coming back to him now he's either going to be there or he's not going to be there, but I think he's got kids."
"I think he's probably going to follow in his father's footsteps and teach his children to some degree, but I don't know there are a million directions it could go there really is."
Unfortunately, at this time, there is no word on if a “Wizards of Waverly Place” reboot is actually happening or not, but the original series is currently streaming on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, along with the film, “Wizards Of Waverly Place: The Movie.”
