Melanie Martin is defending herself against internet trolls!
Since her beau, Aaron Carter, died last year, Martin has been doing her best to be a mother to their son while keeping his memory alive. In her latest bid to achieve that goal, the mother-of-one started a fundraiser in Carter's honor, evoking a mixed reaction from observers. One person went so far as to accuse her of lining her pocket with the funds, which she shut down immediately.
Melanie Martin Shuts Down Allegations Of Using Fundraising Proceeds For Herself
When Martin partnered with The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Programme, she thought it would be easy to get people to contribute towards a fundraiser for the non-profit. However, the opposite was the case, as a few of them questioned her real goal for running the campaign.
The model got the ball rolling by uploading a picture that showed herself and Carter wearing matching gray and white onesies. While she held up the phone to capture the mirror selfie, her late man had their baby boy, Prince, in his arms.
"In honor for my beloved Aaron for he was bullied far too long. (This charity is not for me but for anti bullying)," Martin wrote beneath the Instagram image, editing the caption for future trolls.
Hours after the post went live, one curious Instagram user quipped in the comment section, "The fund raisers are ridiculous at this point - all do respect ... man up and go to work. POINT BLANK. That baby needs you.. get a job and stop the pan handling of the fans. Not cool."
The commenter added that everybody hustles even though it was not easy and advised Martin to "work harder" because it was for her and her don. Less than five minutes later, the content creator responded, "fundraisers dont go to me you ding dong they go to a charity."
Despite that explanation, a few trolls remained unconvinced as one asked, "Is this a joke? Asking for a friend…." Another queried, "If I donate where will my donation go to just wondering?"
Meanwhile, one fan came to Martin's defense, writing, "How about the people who are leaving negative comments just stop! Let's reflect on the good and let's also remember Aaron didn't have a lot of positive people in his life growing up like many of you probably were blessed with."
Even though she got the short end of the stick, this would not be the first time the social media influencer would address some of the challenges Carter faced while he was alive.
In February, The Blast reported that she made multiple posts expressing her anger and frustration after the late singer's talent manager, Taylor, called Martin a "slimey piece of sh*t drop" for selling Carter's plaque on his story. In response, the 30-year-old wrote on her Instagram Story:
"This man is disgusting! He took Aaron's microphone 4 months ago from Aaron, and Aaron had me message him asking for it back, but he sold it for cash! I'm not staying silent anymore!!! Sick of this constant harassing me!!! Nobody sold his plaques there is fake plaques online, and people are saying I am selling them!!! I miss my fiance 💔 it's not fair!"
She subsequently accused Taylor of borrowing her ex-fiance's car, adding that the 34-year-old had maintained a close relationship with him thanks to his gang affiliations. In a third update, the doting mother promised to provide her 221k followers with proof of the "Dancing with the Stars" alum telling her to ask the manager to return his $4000 microphone.
The "Fat Albert" Actor Gushed About His Engagement Before His Death
Despite the tumultuous nature of their relationship, Martin and Carter managed to create several pleasurable moments together. According to The Blast, the celebrity partner highlighted a throwback clip of her beau talking with Wendy Williams about their engagement.
The video began with the "I'm All About You" singer confirming his new relationship status as a picture of the lovebirds appeared on the screen. He stated, "yes, that's my fiancé, Melanie," before pulling the woman above into the camera frame to greet Williams.
After affirming that she was five months pregnant, Martin told the talk show host that she and Carter were already living together in Atlanta before she left the conversation. Williams and the "Do You Remember" hitmaker continued talking, with the latter expressing disbelief about becoming a father.
The influencer wrote, "I really miss those days" above the heartwrenching footage. A previous post, shared by Carter, showed the couple cozying up in a hot tub, captioned, "Engagement Valentine Week ❤️❤️❤️."
