“Everything is so raw and new. I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family,” she told Elle. “In 2014, I knew that my career had to take a back seat. I knew I had to put down roots in Barcelona and be there for my children and for Gerard. I mean, one of us had to make a sacrifice, right?"
Her Breakup Came With Much More Than Deceit & Heartbreak
She is in a legal battle with the Spanish government regarding unpaid taxes upwards of $10 million.
Shakira and Piqué were also involved in a “marathon” custody battle. The singer was eventually granted custody of Sasha and Milan, and she will be able to move them to Miami, Fl. this year.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer’s father has also been battling severe health issues, which has made her move to the US from Barcelona very difficult.
Per Marca’s report, the interview will be broadcast this Monday, February 27th, at 11:30 pm ET/8:30 pm PT on Televisa's flagship newscast.
Following their split last summer, the former FC Barcelona defender quickly moved on with his Kosmos employee, Clara Chia Marti.
The 23-year-old and retired athlete have flaunted their relationship in public on multiple occasions. He even went Instagram official with Clara earlier this year.

Shakira has not taken kindly to any of it and shared a piece of her mind in her most recent collaboration, “TQG,” with Karol G.
The song references both Shakira and Karol G’s breakups with their significant others.
Karol G broke off her engagement to Anuel AA in 2021. In April 2021, she issued a statement to Instagram.
“If just accepting it is hard enough, imagine having to do it in front of millions of people,” Karol wrote in Spanish on her Instagram Story. "For a long time we tried to keep our relationship away from social media in order to protect ourselves. We never used our relationship for marketing purposes, not today, not even almost three years ago when we started [dating]."
"We were two people with public lives that wanted to have a normal relationship just like another other and that's the reason why we never hid our feelings and went public with our relationship," she continued. "The incredible things that happened to both of us, personally and as artists, were a blessing and a result of our beautiful love."
It appears their breakup was more amicable than Shakira and Piqué’s split, and the lyrics from “TQG” show that.
This is the first collaboration between Shakira and Karol G.
They sing about not repeating the mistakes they made in their love lives, adding that they have grown stronger by getting over their time with a person who wasn’t right for them.

Karol G sings, “I don’t have time for something that doesn’t do anything for me. I changed my route. Making money like sport. Filling my account, the shows, the car park, the passport.”
Shakira adds, “You left, and I got triple ‘m’: much hotter, much tougher, much lighter.”
Shakira and Karol G sing in the chorus, “Baby, what happened? Weren’t you in love?” amid lines from both singers that refer to their former partners’ desire to “get back together.”
A portion of the Spanish lyrics translate to, “What are you doing looking for me if you know that I don’t repeat mistakes? Tell your new baby that I don’t compete for men.”
In “TQG” Shakira does admit “seeing you with the new girl hurt me,” but in the same breath she sings, “but I’m now focusing on me. I’ve forgotten about what we lived together and that’s what has offended you. My life has even got better, I swear you’re no longer welcome. And what your girlfriend threw at me, that doesn’t annoy me or make me laugh.”
Shakira also referenced his new relationship in her “BZRP Music Sessions #53.”
She sang, “I’m worth two of 22 [year old]. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio. You’re going fast, slow down.”
