Paul Rudd is known for being Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but before getting his superpowers, he portrayed Mike Hannigan on the hit television series, "Friends".

The actor did not join the show until the ninth season, which aired in 2002, and he played Pheobe Buffay's love interest and third husband.

Now, years, later, the 53-year-old is reflecting back on his time in the show, admitting he felt like he should not have been at the "Friends" finale taping.

When promoting his newest film, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," the actor got a bit off-topic and reflected on one of his first roles in television -- "Friends".

The 53-year-old explained how he loved filming the show with Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing) and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), but there was one episode he felt he should not have been part of.

“It was really fun and they were great,” Rudd said when appearing on The Heart Breakfast show. “The whole thing was a bit surreal to be a part of that.”

He joined the show late, first appearing in Season 9 of the series, but stayed there through the end as his character married one of the six friends -- Pheobe Buffay -- in the finale season. “I came really near the end. I never knew I was going to be in as many as I was," Rudd admitted before adding,  “But it also felt strange. I was in that last episode and I thought ‘I shouldn't be here, I’m getting a front row seat to things I’m not supposed to see’.”

He continued to explain how the cast of "Friends," who have been together since Season 1, were emotional filming the finale episode. “They were all crying, it was all emotional," he said before adding, "I felt very privileged but I was like ‘oh I just want to sit back here and not get in the way’.”

The 53-year-old actor has been busy making movies, but he will soon return to television as he is set to star in the third season of Hulu's "Only Murderers In The Building," alongside Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin.

Meryl Streep will also be joining the cast for the upcoming season, which Rudd says is surreal.

"I came in there, and there's Meryl Streep, who is arguably the greatest of all time," he told PEOPLE. "And Martin Short, who is one of the funniest people on the planet, and somebody that just, I love, I really love."

The 53-year-old "Ant-Man" actor continued, "And yet to be there with Steve Martin, when I think back on people who probably had more of an impact on my life and my wanting to do this, or my understanding that performing or anything was even a career somebody would have, it was him."

"Only Murderers In The Building" seasons one and two are currently streaming on Hulu.
