Kiefer Sutherland Stars In New Thriller Series 'Rabbit Hole'

In the new show, Sutherland stars as John Weir, a master of deception in the world of corporate espionage. In the course of the show, Weir is framed for murder by powerful forces who can influence and control populations.

The show boasts an impressive cast, and it also has an impressive pedigree behind the camera. Opposite Sutherland is Charles Dance of "Game of Thrones" fame, Meta Golding, Enid Graham, Jason Butler Harner, Walt Klink, and Rob Yang. Sutherland also serves as executive producer for the show along with writer-directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra ("This Is Us"), along with Charlie Gogolak, Suzan Bymel, and Hunt Baldwin. Requa and Ficarra also serve as creators of the series and directed the first episode.

Bymel also worked on another political thriller series that previously starred Sutherland, "Designated Survivor." The show ran for three seasons and 53 episodes, with the final season airing on Netflix in 2019.

Sutherland is best known to television viewers as Jack Bauer from the award-winning cultural phenomenon "24." He portrayed Bauer throughout nine seasons. The show was best known for its real-time narration, with one episode taking place over the course of one hour out of a given day. However, Sutherland did not return for the final installment of the franchise, "24: Legacy," in 2017. His last appearance as Bauer was in "24: Live Another Day," a limited television event that aired in 2014.

Sutherland's run on "24" did eventually net him a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on the show. He won the award for Most Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2006. He also shared the award for Outstanding Drama Series for the show that same year. He also won a Golden Globe for "24" in 2002 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Television Series.

"Rabbit Hole" looks like it's cut from a similar cloth as other techno and political thriller-type series, such as "24" and "Person of Interest." Sutherland's character appears to be operating in a grey world, where he doesn't know who to trust, and loyalties are difficult to discern. In a gag scene, Sutherland's character, dressed as a package courier, threatens a security guard by telling him the package has a bomb in it. It certainly harkens back to some of Bauer's more creative interrogation tactics in the history of the "24" series.

Besides his acting career, Sutherland also has a successful career as a musician. He released his latest studio album, "Bloor Street," last year. In the gaming realm, he voiced Big Boss in "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes" and "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain."

"Rabbit Hole" is an eight-episode drama produced by Paramount Global's CBS Studios. The series begins streaming on Paramount+ on March 26.
