In her latest Instagram post, the “Frank and Penelope” actress snapped a photo of Scout looking as happy as ever, his long pink tongue sticking out of his mouth as he smiled for the camera. “Just look at that face. Happy as can be. To look at him you’d never know his story or what this little man has been through,” Donna began.

“He was found living on the streets with a homeless woman. His teeth were rotten from a life of McDonald’s scraps and they all had to be extracted. His back right leg was permanently lame, and he was deaf probably from too many untreated ear infections that permanently damaged his hearing,” she explained. “His nails were painfully overgrown and his fur matted. He attacked anyone who came near him - common with severely abused dogs. The wonderful people who rescued him cleaned him up and nursed him to health, and I was lucky enough to welcome him in to live with me. I promised him I would never let anyone hurt him again.”

“Several months ago, I took him to samsgreenpaw to get groomed, and unbeknownst to me, they empty dogs’ anal sacs as part of their grooming. I only allow my vet to do that,” she added. “They squeezed his bottom area so forcefully it ruptured one of his anal sacs inside without knowing, and they sent him home as Scout was in a rapid decent toward a comatose state. He wound up at an emergency animal hospital where they saved his life. The owner of Sam’s Greenpaw was made aware of everything that happened and made up a bunch of bull---- to get out of being held accountable for what they did to Scout.”

“Nevertheless, Scout still smiles. Look at his goofy toothless self. He hops around on three legs, has to eat mush since he can’t chew, he will never know his name since he can’t hear me, and yet he wakes up every day loving life happy to be alive,” she concluded. “Thanks for the lesson, little buddy. I love you.”

Although a few were frustrated that the groomer was not held accountable for almost causing Scout’s death, many followers were just relieved that Scout managed to survive the terrifying ordeal. “So awesome to hear Scout is still loving life & smiling & thanks to you. He’s come a long way since the gruelling torment from samsgreenpaw. Keep on keepin’ on puppy,” one fan commented.

“I remember you posting that horrible story and saw his pic today and actually thought how great he looks now,” another follower wrote. “Thank you so much for rescuing him and giving him a loving home,” a third fan chimed in. “Idk if I should be happy for Scout or livid at the groomers. I'm both!!” another follower added.

“I am so happy that he is doing better. I saw the original post and was horrified by what happened to him. It’s worse knowing how awful his life was prior and that he has had to learn to trust people and then be treated like that. I hope he continues to get better. What a treasure and grateful he has you!” another fan shared.

In a separate Instagram post, Donna noted that Scout isn't the "first victim" from that groomer. "I found some reviews online. It appears Scout wasn’t the first victim," she wrote before she went on to explain that the owner of the grooming business started "accusing me of this just being about the money."

"A true animal advocate wouldn’t be concerned with defending himself or talking to vets to get excuses or finding ways to get out of covering vet bills when a dog gets injured while in your care, or accusing someone of it just being about the money when they demand justice," Donna added. "A true animal advocate and standup person would have done the right thing immediately.
