During the production of his latest album, “Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God,” Rhymes said that he put his music above everything else, which quickly manifested in several serious health issues.

“Believe it or not, I made the album when I was at my most unhealthy,” he shared in a recent interview. “I was so focused on the music being the best it could be, I didn’t put any time into taking care of myself.”

Along with a diagnosis of sleep apnea, doctors also discovered polyps in his throat that were blocking his airway.

“That’s when I knew s—t was serious,” he explained. “The doctor told me that if I caught a cold or slept wrong that I could die. It felt like this was on me now, and I had to steer things in a different direction. I was too young to be on all of these blood pressure medications and acid reflux medications.”

Destiny intervened when professional bodybuilder Dexter Jacksontagged Rhymes on Instagram while he was working out to one of his songs.

The “I Know What You Want” singer seized the opportunity and immediately sent him a message asking him for help.

“I hit him in the DM,” Rhymes said. “I needed his help, and I gave him my number, and he hit me back right away.”

Killer Workouts

Rhymes was so serious about his commitment that he actually moved to Florida for a month to begin his training.

He actually gained 50 lbs at first, working to add more muscle mass to his frame before he lost weight to an intensive exercise program, working out three times a day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as twice a day on Tuesday and Saturday.

The “Dangerous” rapper also hired a personal chef to help get his diet in check. The rap mogul started eating a strict meal plan every two and a half hours, often scarfing down 12 egg whites in a single meal to get in plenty of protein.
