Selena Gomez 'Not Ashamed' Of Disney Past, But Now Wants NOTHING To Do With It!

Selena Gomez isn’t ashamed of her Disney claim to fame, but she’s no longer flaunting that she was a Disney Channel star.

The actress-turned-singer rose to fame on “Wizards of Waverly Place” from 2007 to 2012. She played “Alex Russo,” a teenage wizard who is relatively lazy, but very smart.

Like many of her cohorts, this role shot SelGo into “overnight” stardom and she became one of Hollywood’s “IT Girls.” Her relationship with Justin Bieber also helped her fame and notoriety.

However, Selena has come extremely far in her career since Disney and she wants nothing to do with the family friendly company.

She appears in Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue and got candid about the “Mouse House.”

“I definitely feel free of it. Sometimes I get triggered,” SelGo admitted. “It's not that I'm ashamed of my past, it's just that I've worked so hard to find my own way. I don't want to be who I was. I want to be who I am.”

In addition to ‘WoWP,’ Selena starred in the show’s spinoff film and released music through Hollywood Records, which also signed stars including Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers and Hilary Duff.

SelGo revealed that during the early stages of her career with Disney, she was told what she could and couldn’t so or do.

“I wasn't a wild child by any means, but I was on Disney, so I had to make sure not to say 'What the hell?' in front of anyone. It's stuff that I was also putting on myself to be the best role model I could be,” she explained. “Now I think being the best role model is being honest, even with the ugly and complicated parts of yourself.”

This explains a lot about SelGo’s work with her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, which she launched in September 2020.

Rare Beauty is “makeup to feel good in without hiding what makes you unique.”

Selena has also stripped away any preconceived notions that she is “perfect” on social media.

The actress has been very vocal about body image and accepting the skin she’s in on TikTok.

Earlier this year, SelGo was body shamed by internet trolls and she responded with one big MOOD.

The actress recently shared a throwback photo of herself to her Instagram account.

It looks like the photo was taken on the set of her music video for “Fetish.”

SelGo is smizing while looking away from the camera.

She simply captioned the post, “Mood.”

Her followers and supporters showered her with positive reinforcement in the comments.

Daniella Pierson commented, “Beautiful ❤️.”

“Te amo,” another replied.

Others began theorizing that “SG3” era is coming.

“I think SG3 is coming sooner than we expect,” one fan wrote.

“She’s cominggggggggg,” added another.

One fan wondered, “Ok so does this mean something or... ?.”

The caption could possibly mean A LOT more than meets the eye given that SelGo was recently body shamed online.

Following the Golden Globes, internet trolls took it upon themselves to criticize Selena’s fuller figure.

While she admitted that she had recently gained weight, Sel said the weight gain was due to holiday indulgence.

The actress has dealt with body shamers on several occasions throughout the years. She previously was on a long hiatus from Instagram but made a return by posting a series of selfies and other personal photos.

Via an Instagram video, Gomez hit back at her body shamers who trolled her following her appearance at the 2023 Golden Globes, per Mirror.

One troll had dissed the actress that her “body would be similar to ur moms” if she kept allowing her weight to fluctuate, while another wrote, “Selena, time to get in shape.”

She also faced the same heat on Twitter as a user claimed she looked a “bit dumpy.”

In response to the negative comments, the singer acknowledged that she had added weight recently, but it was due to her enjoying herself.

“I’m a little bit big right now because I enjoyed myself during the holidays,” SelGo told her fans, seemingly unconcerned about the body image chatter.

After making the remark, the “Wizards of Waverly Place” and her 9-year-old sister, who was also on the live video, busted into laughter after she had said, “But we don’t care.”
