Rebel Wilson is shedding more light on being forced to come out with her relationship with the fashion designer Ramona Agruma. In June 2022, Wilson announced her romantic involvement with Agruma to forestall a write-up by Andrew Hornery from The Sydney Morning Herald, who would have outed her.
While fans got wind of the news about eight months ago, the movie star is now divulging how her family reacted, which was difficult yet "amazing."
Rebel Wilson Came Out To Her Family Hurriedly, But They Were 'Amazing'
Although Wilson is extremely proud of her latest relationship, she wanted to come out in her own way to her family and fans without being rushed. She opened up to Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne on the "Life Uncut Podcast" about the past experience, revealing her family was supportive despite the sudden revelation.
Recalling the "Pitch Perfect" actress's 'coming out' statement about finding her "Disney princess," the host asked if that added more pressure on her relationship with Agruma. The "Senior Year" star responded,
"I wanted to tell people organically and obviously wasn't hiding it but was like, you know, so proud to be dating Ramona, and she's just such an awesome chick."
Wilson then recounted how her grandparents found out, revealing that they were initially unaware until she got an email from the Sydney Morning Herald journalist, prompting her to be honest with them. The haste seemed necessary as she did not want her grandmother, who loves using her phone and has Google alerts on news about her, to learn of her relationship before coming out to them.
The comedian went on, "So my mom had to go there and have a chat with them and like, but luckily they were like so amazing and like my whole family's just been amazing."
On the other hand, her girlfriend's folks have not been as supportive, making it more difficult for her to publicize their affair. "Yeah, it's been probably the most hard [sic]," she confessed. "But with me, it was like a couple of hurried conversations that I would have liked to have just taken my time with."

Viewers were taken with Wilson's candidness, taking to the Instagram page of the podcast to share their thoughts. A commenter who declared their love for the Hollywood star wrote, "She is such a bloody legend. So happy for her." At the time of the Australian actress's coming out, she took to Instagram to unveil her then-new girlfriend using a lovely snap of the duo beaming side-by-side.
She added a heartwarming note that read, "I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess – #loveislove." Considering the month was Pride Month, many believed that was the reason for her coming out. However, The Sydney Morning Herald released Hornery's article, where he revealed that he had given Wilson a two-day deadline before their intended announcement.
The piece focused on the journalist's reaction when the "Bridesmaids" actress decided not to cooperate with the news outlet but went ahead to share her news. He wrote, "Wilson opted to gazump the story, posting about her new 'Disney Princess." Additionally, the article spoke of her past affairs with men.
Many fans, including journalist Kate Doak, were outraged with the publication for nearly outing the award-winning actress as they wasted no time in taking to social media to vent and show support.
The 'Bogan Pride' Star's Girlfriend Did Not Have An Easy Beginning In Their Relationship
A few months after Wilson came out, her babe, Agruma, appeared on "The Morning Show" to discuss their relationship, which was not so easy in the beginning.
The designer revealed that they had too much attention from the media, causing the initial stage of their relationship to be rocky. "It was shocking at the beginning and hard because I'm not used to so much attention," she admitted on the show, adding, "I'm more private, more homebody."
She then spoke of their run-ins with paparazzi, which often happened when they were on a hiking trail or looking disheveled on their way to a grocery store. Nevertheless, Agruma eventually got used to being in the spotlight as she ignored the media but kept trying to live privately with her soulmate.
