Mod Sun Gushes About How Fiancée Avril Lavigne Changed His Life

Pop-punk singer, Mod Sun, has made it clear that his fiancée Avril Lavigne deserves praise for her positive impact on him.

The "Internet Killed the Rockstar" singer revealed he is grateful for everything she's done for him and intends to give her a wedding to remember. The pair met in 2020 while working on a collaboration and kicked off their romance shortly after.

They got engaged two years later, with both of them sharing the news on their Instagram page. He also shared that it's been almost four years since he last resorted to the bottle, stating that he's been sober all the while.

During a recent interview with E! News, Mod Sun, 35, narrated how much of a positive impact his fiancée has had in his life. The "Battle Scars" singer shared that he's experienced so much positive transformation, all thanks to Lavigne.

"I have found such a partner in this world to go through the chaos that life gives you," he stated. "I have found that person. I'm with a real grown woman who has gone through it all 10 times over and she makes me a better person."

He explained that Lavigne's influence has somewhat changed his paradigm, adding that he's "cool with maturing" and that she made him see he's not a "childlike, messy" individual.

Elsewhere in the interview, Mod Sun, while citing a relatable example of his fiancée's good work in his life, explained how she saved him in the process.

The singer shared that Lavigne became his "protection," which was what inspired the song "Shelter," on which she was also featured. He explained that she saved him from the "idea of self-destruction" and annihilated the button he resorts to for "self-sabotage."

Mod Sun went on to add that his idea of success has changed and that he now defines it as "growing old and starting a family," saying he looks forward to being a dad and sharing wonderful experiences with his children.

Mod sun and Lavigne got engaged in 2022 and have since seen their romance bloom gracefully. According to People, their budding relationship started under unforeseen terms as Lavigne was just coming out of a relationship then and had sworn to take a "break from men."

The "Sk8er Boi" singer was first spotted with a diamond engagement ring in Los Angeles before confirming later that she was engaged to Mod Sun, whose real name is Derek Smith.

Lavigne took to Instagram to share the news, flashing the diamond ring in one of the photos, which she captioned, "Oui! Je t'aime pour toujours Dimanche. 27. Mars. 2022."

Mod Sun, on his part, shared a series of photos on Instagram in which he can be seen kneeling with one knee. Alongside the picture was a lengthy caption that partly read, "The day we met I knew you were the one. Together forever til our days are done." He then went on to describe how he proposed to Lavigne in Paris.

The singer pointed out that he'll not sit out from the wedding planning phase but expressed calm, saying there was no need to rush and that he thinks it's "beautiful to let the engagement last."

He shared his plans to give her a befitting and memorable wedding, calling her a "motherf**king princess."

According to E! News, Mod Sun also revealed he'll be celebrating his 4th-year sobriety. The incredible feat is all thanks to his ability to channel his addiction to drugs into healthy practices, like working out.

"An addict, in a lot of ways, has some of the best self-discipline in the world," he shared. "It's been doing these things that make me feel accomplished. One of those things happens to be working out, and whether I wrote a song that day or I created a piece of art that allows me to fall asleep at night and feel good about myself."
