Monique Samuels addressed recent rumors surrounding her decision to leave the cast of "The Real Housewives of Potomac" after season five during an interview with All About the Tea days ago.
“There were rumors that you were not asked back, you didn’t receive a contract, or, I’ve also heard that you were asked back but you got a ‘friend of’ role. Can you clarify that?” Monique was asked, according to a clip shared on Twitter.
Monique confirmed her exit from the Bravo show in December.
Monique Samuels Explains How Demotions Work
After listening to the interviewer's question, Monique said that when it comes to demotions, they typically take place after filming begins on the series' new seasons.
“Yeah, so, it doesn’t really happen like that. A lot of times when people do get demoted to a ‘friend,’ sometimes that happens when you’re already filming the season. So what happens is you have an exercise in your contract that says I can move forward with what was stated previously and it’s called an offer," she explained.

According to Monique, she was approached by production about her return to "The Real Housewives of Potomac" and initially agreed to be a part of the show's sixth season.
"I definitely received an offer, along with a phone call. And I was actually excited to be back and to know that, ‘Okay, this time I’m going to redeem myself. I’m going to show my growth.’ But when I saw episode three of the reunion, I said, ‘You know what? I can’t do this anymore,’” she recalled.

“It’s not easy doing reality TV, and to be quite honest, I’m over it,” she told fans, according to a report shared by Vulture. “I appreciate everything that people have done for me, everybody that’s been Team Monique — I love y’all, I thank y’all — but when you cross certain lines, there’s no going back."
Monique Samuels Believes She Played Into A Stereotype During 'RHOP' Season Five
Monique went on to say that when it came to her decision to join the "Real Housewives of Potomac" cast, she hoped to give viewers a look into "real Black love" and show people something outside of what the stereotype has been on TV.”
“Unfortunately, this season, I played right into that stereotype,” she added.
Monique then noted that while there are plenty of opinions about her floating around after her season five fight with Candiace Dillard-Bassett, she only cares about the opinion of her family.
