The name is DeVine, not Levine! Who knew mistaking the letter "D" for an "L" could cause so many problems? The "Pitch Perfect" star, Adam DeVine, wondered the same after suffering the consequences of mistaken identity last year.
The sensational actor accidentally got dragged into the Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine's cheating scandal because of the similarities in their names. Now, the Hollywood heartthrob is reflecting on the viral moment
Adam DeVine Recalls The Crazy Moment He Was Mistaken For Adam Levine
Once upon a time, the "Workaholics" franchise star found the similarities between his name and Adam Levine's hilarious. However, the comedian's attitude changed following the older entertainer's marital troubles.
During a recent appearance on Alex Cooper's "Call Her Daddy" podcast, the 39-year-old addressed his 2022 debacle with the "One More Night" musician. At the time, the entertainer was forced to clear his name after Levine made headlines for cheating on his then-pregnant wife, Behati Prinsloo.
"I would never—I'm not big in inserting myself into someone else's drama," the TV personality explained. "I'm like, 'this guy is already going through it.' And so, I was steering clear."
However, DeVine had plenty of reasons to interfere after an unidentified news outlet confused him for the "Payphone" singer in its headline. This mix-up resulted in Maroon 5 fans barraging the innocent bystander with hateful messages.
"I was getting so many people that were just DMing me being like, 'How f--king dare you?'" he lamented, noting that he looked up some social media users' accounts to understand the problem.
"Then you look at their page, and I'm like, 'This person does not follow me. They have no idea. They are not Workaholics fans," the actor continued. "They have not seen my movies; they truly were a Maroon 5 fan and now hate me on accident...' I was getting legitimately hundreds of DMs."
Tired of being painted as the bad guy, the "Jessi" star set the record straight using his favorite skill — humor. The 39-year-old cleared up the misunderstanding on Instagram, sharing a picture of himself with his wife, Chloe Bridges. He captioned the sweet post with a short message about the situation. "Just want to post this and say that my wife @chloebridges and I are doing great and going strong," the Iowa native began.
"I am not Adam Levine. He's a different guy and a worse singer. We are, however, naming our future baby Sumner," the comedian hilariously concluded the caption. For those unaware, DeVine referenced the Instagram model Sumner Stroh, who claimed she had an affair with the Maroon 5 frontman.
The social media influencer made the allegations in a TikTok video, sharing screenshots of her conversations with the band's leader. In the snaps, Levine asked permission to name his third child "Sumner."
Despite Stroh's claims, the 43-year-old singer denied the affair on his Instagram Stories and assured fans that the only line he crossed was speaking in a "flirtatious manner."
"In certain instances, it became inappropriate," the entertainer confessed, "I have addressed that and taken proactive steps to remedy this with my family. My wife and my family are all I care about in this world."
All About The Comedian's Marriage To Chloe Bridges
In 2021, DeVine tied the knot to his significant other, as shared by The Blast. The adorable couple said their vows in a beautiful ceremony in Mexico, nearly two years after the "Modern Family" star proposed.
The actor's "Workaholics" costars Anders Holm, Blake Anderson, and Erik Griffin attended the event alongside fellow comedian Adam Ray. These celebrities captured various highlights from the Cabo San Lucas ceremony on their social media pages.
Ahead of her wedding, the "Camp Rock 2" actress gave fans a sneak peek at her upcoming event. The Louisiana native shared various images of herself wedding dress shopping and captioned the carousel with a sweet message.
The 31-year-old noted that the couple might be considered "crazy" for planning their nuptials during the Coronavirus pandemic. Despite the couple facing various setbacks, like contracting the novel virus, they managed to pull off the impossible.
Bridges and DeVine first met in 2014 on the movie set of "The Final Girls." Shortly after their encounter, they started dating and did not take their relationship to the next level until the actor proposed in October 2019.
