'The Backrooms' Urban Internet Legend Will Be Adapted Into A Movie

'The Backrooms' are about to be adapted into a movie, but have you ever heard about it? If you're familiar with the Internet lore, you might know what it is, but for those who have no idea what we're talking about, here's a short summary. The Backrooms is a fictitious story that was created out of one picture on 4chan. Here it is.

This place you see in the picture is where you fall when you suddenly 'noclip' out of reality. Noclipping means getting out of a video game decor, it's a bug. Our story takes the same concept but happens in our world. When you fall into the backrooms, you end up on level 0, this yellow place made of moist carpet and terrible background noises.

Here's the real description of this place: “If you’re not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you’ll end up in the Backrooms, where it’s nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in. God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby because it sure as hell has heard you”.

That's scary right? That's nothing contrary to what was created out of this picture. 

An incredible creation was made out of this image: "the Backrooms wikidot" which is an endless and incredible lore that tells us how many levels exist in the backrooms. But this is not a simple listing, this is one of the most immersive wikidots ever created as it is written for people like us who accidentally fall into the backrooms. And what you learn about it is terrifying. First of all, It is 99,9% impossible to get out of the Backrooms, most people who fall into it die or stay in a level forever.

But how can you die in the backrooms? Well, at each level, first of all, there are what they call entities. Some entities are safe but some others chase you to death. For example, there are smilers, smiling ghosts that eat you alive, or Skin Stealers, who literally devour your skin until you die in terrible pain. The most famous remains the partygoers who want to do everything to bring you to their party, which consists of making you one of them or eating you alive if you resist. They take your body to make cupcakes and pretend It's sweet food to newcomers.

And this is just a small amount of entities that compose more than a thousand different levels, excluding negative levels or special levels. Yes, It is infinite indeed and that's why It's amazing to have the idea to make a movie out of it. But how is that possible to make a movie out of such a big project? In the beginning, It's an amateur and community story, nothing very serious. Well, it was the case until HE arrived, a young and talented 3D animator who decided to create one of the most horrific web series of all time.

When people thought It was the end of the Backrooms lore, because no new content was made out of it, a young Youtuber who is only 16 years old, Kane Pixels, decided to create a channel and posted a video called "Backrooms (Found Footage)". In this video, someone falls into the Backrooms and discovers level 0.

This video became viral immediately, giving fame to a talented creator who gave us an answer about how he made that. While people thought it was all filmed in reality, they found out the whole video was made in 3D. Feeling that his video was becoming viral, he decided to make a series out of it and released many more videos that describe his own lore about the backrooms, which is a little bit different from what is described in the Wikidot. And then, many other people tried to do the same and create their Backrooms' lore.

And of course, when you cumulate that many views, close to 200 Million views, at such a young age, on Youtube, the cinema industry starts to call you. That's why producers from A24 (Midsommar, Hereditary), Atomic Monster (M3GAN, Conjuring), or 21 laps (Love and Monsters, Free Guy) decided to call him to be part of the Backrooms project. Talented directors like James Wan and Shawn Levy will be participating in this. However, we don't know yet what will really happen. But there's one thing for sure, Kane Pixels will be there for the writing and the filming may start soon.
