Offset is clearing the air after news surfaced that he and Quavo got into a fight at the 2023 Grammys.
The controversial Migos rappers who lost their youngest member, Takeoff, to a gunshot wound in November 2022, attended the star-studded event, with Quavo paying tribute to the late rapper during the In Memoriam segment.
Per reports, things didn't go according to plan as Quavo threw a fit and prevented the "Slippery" rapper from joining him on stage to give his moving rendition.
Quavo & Offset Engaged In A Heated Altercation Backstage
According to TMZ, it was reported that the uncle of the late rapper, Quavo, got into a heated fight with Offset before the "In Memoriam" segment of the show which is an annual tradition dedicated to honoring the lives and careers lost in the music industry.
Minutes before the "Messy" rapper got on stage to perform his song "Without You" as a tribute to Takeoff, he allegedly engaged in a physical fight with Offset. The altercation was so intense that the duo had to be pulled apart by onlookers.
As regards the reason for the fight, it was revealed that the Grammys had asked Offset to be a part of the tribute, but Quavo adamantly refused to let the dad of five be a part of the tear-jerking rendition.
It was further alleged that the "Open It Up" rapper blocked Offset from joining him on stage, resulting in a messy fight between the two rappers. From the looks of things and according to sources close to the publication, Quavo started the fight.
However, there has been no footage of the alleged fight. Following the report, the "Clout" rapper took to social media to respond to the news. In a cryptic tweet, he slammed the veracity of the information. "What tf look like fighting my brother yal niggas is crazy," he wrote.
Notwithstanding the squabble that happened backstage between Quavo and Offset, the uncle of the late rapper went ahead on stage to deliver a soul-stirring performance as he paid a moving tribute to Takeoff.
As earlier covered by The Blast, the "No Brainer" rapper won the heart of viewers as he bid his final welfare to his late nephew. For the performance, Quavo wore an all-black ensemble consisting of a suit jacket, a round neck, and pants for his heartwarming tribute to Takeoff. He covered his face with a black mask while brightening the somber look with a silver chain.
The "Stir Fry" rapper, while delivering his heartfelt presentation, sat on a stool beside an empty seat to represent his deceased music partner and bandmate. Quavo further had a customized microphone adorned with one of Takeoff’s diamond-encrusted necklaces placed in front of him.
Also featured alongside his performance was "The Maverick City Music" choir, who joined in the rendition dedicated to the late Takeoff. The “Messy” crooner proceeded to abandon the stool as the song deepened. Following his lead, members of the Maverick City Music choir sang Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa’s hit song “See You Again.”
The unpredicted remix featured a compelling message of grief which viewers found heartwrenching. Quavo ended his overwhelming performance by raising Takeoff’s chain from the microphone stand and flashing it to the audience.
The heartbroken rapper, whose pain was visible even with a masked face, however, bravely completed his performance without tears. Fans, on the other hand, were reduced to a crumbling, crying mess by his tribute to his nephew.
The hashtags #Quavo #Takeoff #Grammys began trending on Twitter. Fans shared clips of their favorite moments from the rapper’s tribute, praising his heartfelt delivery. A female fan wrote, "I am Crying! That was a beautiful tribute. Quavo was very strong to do that tribute." A general theme among the praises Quavo got was the feeling of resilience and strength that the rapper displayed.
One impressed fan wrote, "Quavo is stronger than me because I would’ve been up there snot crying," another noted that the rapper’s pain was visible on his face.
The Estranged Rappers Earlier Banded Together For Takeoff's Wake
While fans are currently confused about the state of Offset and Quavo's relationship following the reports of the rift at the "In Memoriam" service, the pair previously shocked the public as they got on their best behavior during the days leading up to the burial of the "Messy" rapper.
Per The Blast, the rappers were captured by paparazzi meeting up to attend the wake of their beloved cousin and nephew, who they lost in a most devastating way.
Quavo and Offset were further seen hugging one another as they got into a car together to travel to the somber event. Asides from the presence of the two rappers, Offset's wife, Cardi B, was also in attendance to support both men as they grieved the loss of their late band member.
