Bonnie Raitt is trending on Twitter Monday morning for quite a reason!

Many Twitter users experienced a moment in their musical educations as they learned of Raitt's existence for the first time!

The "I Can't Make You Love Me" is no stranger to The Grammy Awards. The 73-year-old has won 13 of the legendary statues and added one more to her collection at the 2023 awards ceremony for Song Of The Year, won for "Just Like That."

Apart from her win, Raitt's presence at the ceremony was very much made known. The cameras panned to her several times throughout the broadcast, and she joined Sheryl Crowe and Mick Fleetwood on stage for a tribute to Christine McVie during the 'In Memoriam' segment.

Not every single Grammy viewer knew who Raitt is, and many took to Twitter to voice their confusion. Others took a second to explain her legacy (and express their dismay) over some users' reception of Raitt on the platform.

Some 'Swifties' Were Allegedly Upset Over Raitt's Win Over Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was even brought into the discourse.

Swift was ever-present at The Grammy's, although she did not perform. The "Anti-Hero" singer did score a win; she would later express her gratitude to the Recording Academy after winning 'Best Music Video' for the "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version)" music video! The track was also nominated for Song Of The Year.

The Swift-related Twitter chatter wasn't all celebratory, however. Swift and Raitt were frequently mentioned in tweets together, and the conversation seemed to focus on some 'Swifties' allegedly 'bullying' the "Something To Talk About" singer for winning her Grammy.

"As a Swiftie, it's shameful to see some other Swifties disrespecting Bonnie Raitt. Before disrespecting Bonnie Raitt, just think about how Taylor Swift does not want any hate in the fandom and how disappointed she would be to see some Swifties disrespecting Bonnie Raitt," a Swift fan implored their fellow Swifties.

"Ok Swifties chill... Bonnie Raitt is a g**d**n good songwriter," a user wrote. "@taylorswift13, you may not have won Song Of The Year @ the #grammys, but I still [heart] you as a singer, songwriter, and a person. Cheers for a great musical career so far #TaylorSwift you'll always be princess-queen," they concluded.

"Let Bonnie Raitt enjoy her celebration," another Swiftie tweeted. "Swifties- Taylor is being graceful and so should we," they continued with a heart emoji.

"casual reminder to unhinged swifties to not send Bonnie Raitt hate. blame the academy- not Bonnie. she was as shocked as we all were. the Grammys have always been a scam and whether taylor was going to win AOTY or not doesn't change that," another Swiftie weighed in.

"keep seeing tweets from swifties mad that some 'random woman' beat taylor for song of the year so I finally looked and it was BONNIE RAITT? Bonnie Raitt is a random woman to you??? please," a shocked Swiftie exclaimed.

Raitt Was Also Referred To As An 'Unknown Blues Singer' In A Headline

The discourse also touched on how Raitt was portrayed in headlines from multiple outlets, covering her Song Of The Year Win.

The Daily Mail covered Raitt beating multiple artists including Swift and Beyonce, and referred to Rait as "an unknown blues singer." The headline also described a sense of shock over Raitt's victory.

One user listed multiple accolades Raitt has to her name, including mention of her Grammy wins, and her Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame membership status.

"if it wasn't for her or artists like joni mitchell, taylor swift wouldn't be playing music now," they also wrote in a tweet response.

The Daily Mail later edited its headline. It currently reads, "So who is Bonnie Raitt," and describes her win as a "shock moment."

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden was on hand to present Raitt with the award.

"I'm so surprised, I don't know what to say," Raitt said in her speech per the outlet. "I don't write a lot of songs but I'm so proud you appreciate this one. I'm totally humbled." "Just Like That" was inspired by both organ donors and the late country music legend John Prine. (via Daily Mail)
